HSBC Champions Will Become Fourth WGC Event
We talked about this some over the fall and early winter when Tim Finchem let it out of the bag that the HSBC Champions event would replace the World Cup as the fourth World Golf Championships event.
That news is now official. Jon Show has more in the Sports Business Journal.
The PGA Tour is close to formally introducing the HSBC Champions as the fourth World Golf Championship event.
The tour would not confirm the new HSBC event, but commercials for the U.K.-based financial institution ran during the recent telecast of the CA Championship on NBC. World Golf Championship title sponsors receive ad units during one another’s telecasts.
HSBC and the tour have been talking for more than a year about making the HSBC Champions the fourth World Golf Championship event.
A source said all four rounds will air live on Golf Channel.
I am not one to trumpet ourselves very much here at Waggle Room, but we nailed this one.
