The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly - 3/20/09

Twice per week or so, we take a look at the world of professional golf through the lens of the classic Western movie.

The Good

  • Jim Furyk - Obviously.  Furyk continued riding the wave of his fantastic performance in a supporting role at the CA Championship.  At Innisbrook, he fired -6 and took the first round lead over Stephen Ames.
  • LPGA Tour Back in the Western Hemisphere - After an off couple of weeks, the LPGA tour is back in our hemisphere with the Mastercard Classic.  Louise Friberg is the defending champion.  8 of the top 10 ranked players in the world are in the field.
  • Len Mattice - It's early on in the Nationwide Tour season, but Len Mattice would regain his PGA Tour card if the season ended today.  He's 18th on their money list and the top 25 players get cards.
  • Duramed Futures Tour - Their season begins this week at the Florida's Natural Growers Charity Classic in Florida.

The Bad

  • Alex Cjeka - Want to know something about how fickle the game is?  He is in dead last this week, so far +12 through 1.5 rounds.  The sad part is that he has finished in 13th in each of his last two starts.

The Ugly

  • No European Tour TV This Week - Golf Channel isn't showing the Euro Tour's Madeira Islands Open de Portugal.  I demand Renton Laidlaw!

GBM ? (the good - the bad - the Miller) or GMU ? (the good - the Miller - the ugly)

How about renaming one of the sections for the constently bad/ugly Johnny Miller ? :-) Last Sunday, he constantly berated Nick Watney when he had to attempt incredibly difficult shots, but didn’t apply the same standards to guys like Furyk when the left comparatively simple bunker shots in the sand.

Yeah, but to acknowledge Miller feeds right into what he’s trying to do :)

LOL

I don’t buy into the “any publicity is good publicity” nonsense. If enough people come down on your head – eventually you’re going to get a headache…or get fired.
