PGA Trivia, Volume 5- Answered
Here, we will do something different.
You don't need to know the winner or infamous Masters loser, but who was playing with them on their famous Sunday at Augusta.
- 1975 - Jack Nicklaus- and ??
- 1978 - Gary Player and ??
- 1979 - Ed Sneed* and ??
- 1984 - Ben Crenshaw and ??
- 1986 - Jack Nicklaus and ??
You have to figure out all five of us. We all share something in common. That is your only clue.
Sneed is the only loser among this group. His final round collapse at the 1979 Masters is arguably the most famous in that tournament's history.

I didn't think this was all that tough. Apparently I was wrong
75- Tom Watson
78- Sevriano Ballesteros
79- Craig Stadler
84- Nick Faldo
86- Sandy Lyle
What they all had in common- They would all go on to win the Masters themselves.

Its five different golfers and not Palmer
But they all share one thing in common. Sunday pairings are done by position on the leaderboard.

I've no clue as to the answer...
…but I’m looking forward to finding out what the common bond is.

Well, both Nicklaus’ weren’t in the final pairing, so that kind of helps…

Really? I thought it was Miller and Weiskopf in the final group.

hey – I’m guessing here ! lol
Nicklaus blew the field away in the first two rounds and cruised on the weekend.

Ok, had to look this one up and found this Dan Jenkins summary. Looks like he was with Watson in the next to last pairing.

well there you have it – Nicklaus and Watson. Reading that makes me wish I had been playing golf at that age.

After poking around, I think 1984 is Crenshaw with Roger Maltbie.

No
Maltbie played with Crenshaw in the final round in 1987, not 84. All those golfers above but Ed Sneed won the Masters in the years I list. Crenshaw and Maltbie finished one shot out of the Mize-Norman-Ballesteros playoff.

Oh, I misread the link I clicked on. My bad.

You know
I figured someone would get Watson. The other four, aren’t so hard to figure out. If you notice a trend on the ones you discover, you figure out the hard ones.
