If the NBA Can Bring us HORSE, then the PGA Tour...

The greatest thing in the history of sports' all star competitions is about to happen.  It's on the level of Josh Hamilton crushing almost 30 home runs in a round of the Home Run Derby.  It's on the level of Alex Ovechkin wearing a hat with a Canadian flag, bouncing the puck on the stick in mid-air, and scoring in the NHL All Star Skills Competition.

The NBA is bringing HORSE to the All-Star Weekend!  HORSE!

What a great idea.  The dunk competition is fun, but short.  The three point contest is only something purists love.  But HORSE is something everyone who has ever touched a basketball knows how to play.  We can identify with it.

So, what could golf do for us that would have the same kind of impact?

First, golf doesn't have a professional all-star game - although I've said it should, and Golfweek, and Jay Busbee agree with me.

Also, golf doesn't have a game or HORSE.  ADT and NBC would point you to the skills challenge they have each year.  But, it is filmed for TV at a resort with an audience of 100 people.  It's not that exciting.  We need an all-star weekend and we need our golfing HORSE.

I'm thinking maybe a mini golf competition.  How fun would it be to see Brad Faxon try to negotiate a windmill?  Don't you wonder in the back corner of your mind whether or not he tries to read the artificial turf when he takes his kids to putt-putt?

How about a speed golf competition for 3 holes?  So many of these guys play at a snail's pace that it would be funny to see them try to get done quickly.  First round matchups have to include Ben Crane vs. Rory Sabbatini.

What do you think?

that's not horse...

…those things you tossed out, though fun, aren’t HORSE, where you pick a shot – pull it off – then have to be matched by the other guys. Those are just more skills challenges.

BUT – I’m feelin’ ya, dog.

Let these guys pick a flop shot from knee high rough 30 yards from the flag…or a 2 iron around a tree with a 40 yard hook or slice…or a 5 iron that has to go under the limbs of one tree and over the next tree…or a bunker shot with the ball completely buried…or some impossible looking pitch or putt…let Mickelnuts (just for you Red) call a chip from 15 feet that has to go past the flag and spin back…

"this ball will fit in that fairway"

Just a sec...

I need to stop laughing…okay, whew! A great way to start the day.

Now this I’d like to see!
