Fantasy Crystal Ball: Buick Invitational

We return to Torrey Pines this week - the site of the greatest major championship duel of our time. Unfortunately, neither of the participants will be there to take on a kinder Torrey than the one that the USGA presented. Tiger Woods and Rocco Mediate are out with various injuries. Still, with about a third of the top 30 in the field this week, we will have a good golf tournament on our hands.
Paddy Harrington makes his United States debut this week, and I think he's a solid A-list pick simply because of the lack of depth otherwise. Mickelson laid an egg last week. And although, as Golf Channel's Brian Hewitt points out, Lefty is great in San Diego, and a missed cut, I just don't see much from him this week. Call it a hunch.
After last week's fashion train wreck, I wasn't going to pick Ryan Moore for the rest of the year. But I calmed down and realized that I should just bench him this week. He has two missed cuts in three tries here.
On the B-list, I'm getting on the Charley Hoffman Bad Hair Train. He has played well of late and should get some decent points this week - even coming off of that playoff loss. I will continue to stick with Steve Marino until someone else who gives fantasy advice realizes he is the sleeper pick of the year, and then unceremoniously trash him. Though I won't have him on my fantasy team, I'll be rooting hard for Paul Goydos - glad to see him back, but incredibly sorry for his loss.
As for the C-list, I would continue to stick with Webb Simpson and insert CH3 into the mix. He seems to like Southern California golf. Just don't get confused by James Nitties' performance in Arizona. He has missed his other 2 cuts this season.
And I'm just throwing this out there, but I think Chris Riley could show some signs of life this week.

consider the weather...
…they are looking at 4 or 5 days of rain – maybe not all day – but the ground is going to be soggy at best. Watch the guys who spin the ball a lot or don’t know how to control their spin – soft greens will exaggerate the spin.

Very true
Also some variables because Torrey’s greens could get beat up pretty bad by all of the traction.

Imada & Senden
are my A’s this week. Imada is due and Senden has been hot.
Courtgolf – seems like soft greens bring a lot more players into the mix. It’s the firm fast greens that thin out the pack.

it's not the putting...
…it’s the spin on the approach shots that makes getting close to the hole difficult.
Good choice with Imada – he’s a former UGA Bulldog and is really getting his game going the last year or so.
OH – enjoyed meeting your crew last week at the Merchandise Show demo day.
