Heather Jones of realwomengolf.com writes a blog about all kinds of things golf, but a lot of the topic matter has to do with overcoming barriers to loving the game and getting more people involved in the sport.  We spend a decent amount of time here talking about why people play golf, why they stop, and what can be done to stem the tide of fewer rounds and golfers in this country - or even other countries!

Heather had a comment in one of our topics here about growing the game that golfers should start a grassroots-style campaign to introduce friends and family to the game of golf.  A number of you responded by agreeing that they never would have taken up the game were it not for someone encouraging you to give it a try.

So, her and I are teaming up to introduce Take a Non-Golfer to the Course.  Hence, TANG.  Over the coming weeks, we'll be launching a website to point people who are interested in the cause to visit and learn more.  We'll be doing outreach in the blogging community and the golf industry in the hopes that they will help support us in this measure.  Basically, we're going to do anything we can to get the word out that golfers can grow this game themselves.  (Although some industry help will never hurt.)

We know that golf can be expensive, and it can take a long time to learn and play.  We will also be trying to encourage ways to make golf cheaper to access and quicker to play.

I hope you'll join us in this effort, even if it means the occasional 6 hour round or long trip to the driving range with your new golf friend.  Really, it's probably better for your sanity to be playing behind the slow weekend hackers with friends.
