Match Play Championship: Snead Bracket Breakdown

The only man that can complete some form of the Grand Slam (go to Denny's) heads the Snead bracket.  We haven't heard much from Paddy Harrington since his PGA Championship win.  I don't expect to hear a lot from him this week.  He may become one of those guys that just gets up for big events.  Unlike Phil Mickelson, though, he won't publicly say that every tournament is a Masters tune-up.

I am a Ross Fisher fan and think that he could upset Paddy.  Since I'm not a fan of Robert Allenby, I'll be pulling for Fisher.

Last year, I stupidly predicted that Martin Kaymer was going to make a deep run.   But, I will try it again this year.  A T4 in Dubai and T2 at the Volvo Masters and Abu Dhabi lead me to believe that he has a decent chance this week.

Round 1: Perez, Fisher, Furyk, Kaymer, Stenson, Romero, Kim, Choi

Round 2: Fisher, Kaymer, Romero, Kim

Round 3: Kaymer, Kim

Winner: Kaymer

I agree - this one is crazy...

…maybe not AS crazy – but this is another tough one to pick. Harrington is not playing well, and there are a lot of youth vs experience matches in the first round. (wouldn’t you love to have stock in Korean TV for the AK vs Choi match ?) I have to give the nod to experience in most of this bracket.

Harrington, Allenby, Furyk, Kaymer, Stenson, Leonard, Kim, Choi
Allenby, Furyk, Stenson, AK
Furyk, Stenson
Stenson

I can’t argue with that. Kim looks awfully good so far, though. I like him because of how much he seemed to love pounding Garcia at the Ryder Cup.

but KAYMER...

…winning the bracket ?

Sometimes, you just have to go with your gut and make a stupid pick :)

we’ll have to wait on Red Tee’s picks – she’s the one with money on this thing. :-D

Oh Lord...

this bracket is going to kill me…I went with my heart on this one…DL III beats out Allenby – don’t ask me why – I think I said I didn’t do much research…and did I mention that I haven’t been feeling very well lately? (do I have enough excuses yet?) –
Kaymer goes out in the first round (which clearly looks like a mistake) – and I have Allenby playing Appleby because I think it’s funny to say their names together. I think I should have gone with AK, but I went with the steely eyes of Love to make his opponents nervous. GO Davis!

there are worse theories that have worked...

…I’ve met women who have won big bucks in NFL and NCAA pools by picking the jersey color they liked best.

Why NOT DLIII ? That’s a lot of experience and he’s been playing better. He may have to play 3 tough matches to get to AK, but why NOT ?

Why NOT Kaymer going out in the first round ?

Why NOT Allenby vs Appleby because you like their names together ? Appleby still has plenty of game, and he might get those new clubs firing this week. And Allenby is tough as nails.

This is a crazy tournament – that’s what makes it so much fun…unless you bet the farm on it. :-)

I have to grab some lunch and think about it, but my final four will be out around 3 or so.

Since Rory already lost, my bet stinks.

is it REALLY that difficult ???

Henrk Stenson – and xxx Golf Channel puts Andrew Magee on the match – a guy who has to pronounce the name ON-rik. is it any wonder nobody likes to watch The Approach ?

well - there goes one from my final four

21 holes and DLIII scrapes through to the second round. I had Stenson losing in the semis. ooops

Are you kidding??!

Way to go Davis!! I had stopped keeping track because all of my guys looked like they were losing. Maybe there is a glimmer of hope after all!
