Golf Writers' Association Awards: Yup, I Didn't Win
The Golf Writers Association of America - of which I am not a part because I'm technically a blogger and not hired by any professional journalism organization - awarded its annual writing prizes yesterday.
Even if I were a member, I wouldn't have won one anyway. I've read a good number of the pieces that won awards and enjoyed almost all of them. This is good work from some of your favorite writers.
If you want to see who won, check out the PGA Tour.com report.

another "let's pat ourselves on the back" award
come on, RB, in most parts of society, incest is frowned upon. Groucho had it right, “I’d never join a club that would have me for a member.” :-)

Haha, that’s a good quote. I’m not going to lie and say that I don’t like trophies, though. And if it came with a cash award, that’d be nice.

cash is good...
…that falls under the “leave the gun – take the canolli” school of thought.

They don't like us
I find that many “journalists” have a serious disdain for bloggers. Probably because we’re eroding the ivory towers that they’ve built for themselves. I wouldn’t even be surprised to learn that they secretly refer to us as “those people”.

I heard on the radio this morning that a blogger doing investigative reporting in Baltimore was called “just a blogger” by the Mayor’s staff. The Mayor is under investigation for fraud.

when he's done...
…send him to Atlanta – he could make a whole career on just mayoral corruption down here.

I was going to...
…point my finger and say, “haha!!” at both of you, but then I realized that I live half an hour from Philadelphia.

You know that sound they play when you lose on the Price is Right? I’m hearing that in my head right now.

…here’s the link to the cartoon shorts next to the Price is Right link – three of them are very funny.

If I had won, would I have heard by now? And
shouldn’t they have a blogger category? For example, best blogger with less than 30 days experience blogging. Blogger with fewest posts? First blogger to interview the nipple of a European Lady Tour Player?
Ryan, remember, Baltimore is ‘The City That Reads’. Unfortunately, much of our politicians’ reading material consists of subpoenas, indictments and grand jury summons.

Ooooo
I must’ve missed the nipple interview. (lol)
Nah – bloggers are mostly sub-human to these “legitimate journalists”

To some
they definitely are. They’re probably mad that we talk about things well ahead of their editorial cycle. J/k.
