Great Weekend of Pro Golf
In deserts separated by some 8500 miles, we had two great golf tournaments in the FBR Open and the Dubai Desert Classic.
Kenny Perry had the FBR won, lost, and lost again before ultimately finding a way to slip a birdie past Charley Hoffman and win for the first time this season. What is crazier is that I'm pretty sure Perry will win again this season and he's almost 49 years old.
We also had the breakout of Rory McIlroy. And, since he's 19, let me clarify by saying that it wasn't a breakout of acne. McIlroy won the Dubai Desert Classic by a shot, becoming the European Tour's 7th youngest winner and first teen to do it since Sergio Garcia. He's had a pretty good career to this point, with two runner-ups in playoffs and now a win on one of the circuit's biggest stages.
Oh, and the Superbowl was pretty good, too. Was it a coincidence that it featured a team from the desert? I think not.

Feherty had the line of the week...
…second playoff hole (#10) – Hoffman’s drive bounces off of a Fed Ex truck (that was sitting out of bounds) – then the cart path, before finishing 60 yards from the green.
“He just gave new meaning to ’When it absolutely, positively has to get there….” :-)

Unfortunately
Hoffman’s ball never hit the Fedex truck. As the replay showed.

In the interest of full disclosure
I only saw the highlights on Sunday since I was organizing my Superbowl party. Hell of a game!

missed the super slo-mo hd breakdown

it was great...
…and I’m even starting to get some feeling back in my legs. Got to spend a little time with Tim Southwell, John Dean, and the delicious Sophie Horn – of ShowMeTheGolf.com. Tim and John started GolfPunk magazine a few years and sold it a year ago to start this web based show. Even managed to pull off a win at the Fantasia Gardens putt putt course – THE hardest putting course you’ll ever play.
WAY too many clubs to try to hit – but found several that will definitely get consideration for the bag this year. And the variety of accessories and training aids just boggles the mind…but I did manage to find a couple worth bringing home.
I waited until Saturday afternoon to sneak into the fashion side. I just hate walking over there when it’s busy – I don’t like seeing people pointing at me saying “oh that poor man – he must not be able to afford a lamp in his closet…”
It’s always a blast spending time at the show – I love meeting people and seeing what kind of ideas they came up with for us in the golf world.
