Donald Trump is Buying in My Backyard

The Washington Post is reporting that Donald Trump has purchased the Northern Virginia golf club called Lowes Island.  The club had been on the market for quite some time with a price tag of $18 million.  The name doesn't really matter because, according to the story, Trump's just going to change it to Trump National D.C.

For some reason, I find Donald Trump simultaneously nauseating and awesome.  It's a weird mix of feelings that conjure up whenever he and golf come together.  Overall, I think this is probably a good thing for the region.

If things going well, this may well help out the AT&T National.  The members at Congressional Country Club - current host of the event - hate having their course commandeered during the prime of the golf season.  With the kind of old school money there, it is well possible that the club will cease to host the event after 2012.

By then, perhaps Trump National D.C. will be available.  Trump seems to think so.

As soon as word leaked that Trump was interested in Lowes, golf nuts in the Washington area started buzzing that he'll make a serious run at bringing all the big-name tournaments to his greens -- especially Tiger Woods, who holds a tournament at Congressional Country Club in Bethesda. "Congressional doesn't have a chance," Trump said yesterday.

There you have it.

Mr. Trump, welcome to the neighborhood.

trump

I’ve actually played out at Lowes Island and I remember it being pretty awesome. I imagine once Trump gets through with it, it will be really unbelievable. I’m glad Trump is coming to town. It will add a little more flavor to the area, and maybe bring a top tournament as well.
Should be interesting either way. A bottle of water will probably be about $25 though.

lowes is money...

went out a bunch with a member about two years ago. played the original course, it’s nice. good thing he got new carts, if you had to walk that course you’d kill yourself, it’s impossible.

Good thing

That Trump has about a thousand LLCs to his name because his casino ones all filed for bankruptcy protection yesterday.

whew...

…good thing he protected himself – I’d hate to think of The Donald without enough money to keep buying those ferret pelts he wears on his head. :-)
