Golf World LPGA Preview is Out

And Ron Sirak has his top 30 predictions again. I don't have to pick with it like I did last year but.....

  • He's got Katherine Hull way too low
  • He's got Karrie Webb and Helen Alfredsson too high. I doubt Helen will make the top 30.
  • Only 3 Koreans in the top 10, but Shin, SH Lee are good choices. NY Choi, I don't know.
  • He's got Inbee Park way too high. Picked over A Park, IK Kim,  JY Lee.
  • Ueda in the top 30? I like Momoko but I think Sirak chose the wrong Japanese golfer.

Biggest omissions- Christina Kim and Eun Hi Ji. Christina wants to make the Solheim after being passed over. He's got Juli Inkster over her. That figures......

Oh and his top 5 rookies to make an impact doesn't list Ji Yai Shin. I know she played 10 tournaments already but she is technically a rookie. She should be on the list, because Sirak in his top 30 even admits she could be POY this year.  If he meant top 5 rookies other than Shin, he should have said it.

I didn't comment on that

Because she is having the baby early this year. She may be able to come back, depending on when she starts playing again.

Whoops

on Hjorth.

Christina played awfully well and awfully angry when she got slighted for the SC.

SShin is going to be fantastic this year.

He picked

Shin 3rd only to Ochoa and Creamer which is reasonable though I’d bet him $50 she tops Creamer.

I would say that, too

I love Paula, but Shin just seems unflappable.

These are predictions ?

only Shin in the top 30 with this class of rookies ? (can a rookie suffer from a sophomore slump ?) :-) nothing for Hurst, or Wie ?

Se Ri Pak still in the top 30 ? Not sure Helen Alfredsson has another 2 win season in her.

I don’t have any problem with Ueda in the top 30 – but Pressell in the top 20 seems like a stretch unless she has beefed up her length off the tee.

Hull is way too low. And if this is for the end of the year – look out for Christina Kim. Saw her at the merchandise show and she is stoked for the new season.

Yes the missing rookies

Hurst, Wie, Lewis and Oyama. Three of who I put in the top 30, and 2 of who I put in the top 10. Another player being forgotten, the player a good chunk of the media will shake their heads as they say ‘where did she come from?’ Amy Yang. She isn’t a rookie but this is the first year she will have full priviliges.

Ron is too stuck in the past but I’ve said that before

at least...

…the Wie Rule has been forgotten – a couple of years ago, when the Rolex rankings came out – I thought they were just going to install Wie as the #1 player in the world before she even got a card ! :-/

Pressel

Look at it this way—if she could win and finish top 30 on the money list while struggling with swing changes (where her accuracy improved even more ff the tee but her length dropped sharply), how good a year could she have if she grooves her new swing?

I agree that kind of “if” thinking can be dangerous (I think he’s going way out on a limb for Minea Blomqvist, myself), but, heck, I do it for SH Lee (assuming her putting will improve)Pressel, Miyazato (assuming her driving will improve), Na Yeon Choi (assuming her putting will improve), Jee Young Lee (I feel she’s due for a top 10), Mi Hyun Kim (assuming she’s back from last season’s surgery and will play a full schedule at full strength), and Shanshan Feng (assuming her 2nd half of ’08 is the tip of the iceberg when it comes to her talent).

I like how Sirak is less stuck in the past than usual. His Song-Hee Kim and Brittany Lang picks are bold, Gulbis says she’s healthy and well-prepared for the season, and Se Ri and Karrie could compete at the elite level any given week.

So I’m prepared to lose to him this year.
