Go On Record for the Majors

At my old blog, I could never ask this question because I wouldn't get many answers.  But with such a great group here, I am expecting some really good debate on this.  You've now had five tournaments to see the PGA Tour lay of the land for 2009, without Tiger.  Taking that and Tiger's imminent return into consideration, who will win each of the four majors this year?

There's no prize, other than me running a post with your name and the I Called It graphic that I love to use when I call it.

So, tell me the winner of each of the four majors and - if you dare - why.

I'm not running to Vegas...

…not this year. Things are too wide open. Phil Mickelson looks like Phil the Janitor. We haven’t seen Sergio. Paddy’s starting slow. There are a lot of names I would love to put into a green jacket, but most of them haven’t played well at Augusta, and we still don’t know what kind of condition Tiger is going to be in by then.

Masters – Anthony Kim
US Open – Bethpage Black – Geoff Ogilvy
British – Turnberry – Tiger
PGA – Hazeltine – Sergio

oh - and why

most of them are “why not ?” answers.

AK has really matured the last year, and he can get very hot with the irons and putter.

Ogilvy – has the length to handle The Black and the mental toughness.

Tiger – Turnberry is another course where mental toughness is key. The course can be played along the ground, and you don’t have to rip a driver. It’s a tacticians course – and he’s the best.

Sergio – why not ? He keeps getting closer, and he’s played well at Hazeltine in the past. (and do we really want to see Rich Beem dancing on 18 again ?) :-)

Tiger finally gets his grand slam in 2009

He’ll be super hungry after his year layoff.

Euro/US mixed

I think Padraig could win a couple, he believes he can do it and I think Turnberry will be his stomping ground. Tiger could take it tho? Hmm – difficult one this..

Predictions as follows anyway:

Masters – Anthony Kim – agree with courtgolf, he’s eager and just bound to get it right this year..

US Open – Tiger Woods – He’ll return to form here and take it…

British Open – Padraig Harrington all the way. He’ll want to cement his place in history books

PGA – Sergio Garcia – He’ll win it and step up this year.

Paddy would be happy...

…wow – three in a row at the British for Paddy – he’ll dance a jig across 18 if he does that !
