Good Karma Comes Back to JP Hayes in the Form of PGA Tour Card
In the second stage of last year's Q-School, JP Hayes disqualified himself after realizing that he had played two shots on one hole of entire round with a golf ball that was not on the approved list of golf balls created by the USGA.
Nobody would have ever known, but Hayes called the penalty himself because he said any other golfer would have done the same. His Titleist prototype broke the rules, and that was that.
In 2009, he wound up playing 15 events with partial status on the PGA Tour. At one point, he missed seven straight cuts on Tour before finishing the season fairly well. He finished at 172 on the money list with a shade over $300,000.
But on Monday, the good karma from his honesty came back to him. He earned his Tour card at Q-School by finishing 8th.
