TigerWoods.com: Monument to Woods' Delusion

UPDATE 1/5/10 11:50am: TigerWoods.com has been updated to remove both Accenture and AT&T as sponsors.

Throughout his entire career, Tiger Woods has used his own website as a propaganda machine.  He's used it to announce his schedule, family events like the birth of his kids, and - more recently - a limited amount of information about his infidelity to his marriage.

After all of the turmoil, sponsors have been jumping ship on Woods left and right.  Accenture is done.  Gatorade Tiger is done, though his relationship with Gatorade isn't defunct.  Gillette benched Woods.  There is a rumor that EA Sports may go.  Golf Digest and TAG Heuer have benched Woods for the duration of his self-imposed leave from golf.

So why then are they all listed on TigerWoods.com as active sponsors of his?

Tigersponsors_medium

Upper Deck, Nike, Net Jets (don't even get started on those jokes, too easy), and the bankrupt TLC Laser Eye Centers have all expressed support for Tiger.  But the above have definitely all said that they're either through with Tiger or at least shunning him indefinitely.  Why keep up the charade?

Considering that the website also recently shut down the forum portion of the site, maybe Tiger Woods is going to try to rebuild his image in the same way that he created it: lying.

That’s my guess as to why the sponsor list hasn’t been updated. The boss is in hiding somewhere and it wouldn’t surprise me if no one really has any idea what’s going on except for a select few, and those few clearly don’t care to keep the website up to date.

ALL THE KINGS MEN

If anyone is thinking that this is TIGAR at work doing all this himself, they are very delusional…He has his lawyer types, management hacks, etc. telling him EXACTLY what to say, when to say it, and how to say it….this is all out of his hands now…Why you ask?…It’s all about the money honey…..isn’t everything???….why else, or perhaps better said as “how else” could he be the BILLION DOLLAR MAN. We will probably never know exactly what happened the night that started this whole mess, that is unless Elin herself tells us, and I can’t see that happening anytime soon, but now the ATTORNEYS have the bit in their teeth, and can smell the hefty hourly billings to be made….check back soon, as this is still a work in progress….STUB

What it is !!

Referencing TW, “THE BRAND” I can totaly understand the Sponsors aingst in pulling out with the balance of them on the fence. This is nothing new in the business world. Like Kenny Rogers song says, “Know when to hold em and know when to fold em”. As far as Tiger the golfer goes as it relates to his fan base, I think the worst thing his “Think Tank” can do for him is to “shut off” access to his faithfull fans and bloggers via his website. A bad Public Relations move if you ask me. That less than strategic move will lose more support than it will gain in the long run…jumpn/progolf

Sounds like someone bought himself a bigger hammer for Christmas. Enjoying taking big swings at Tiger, RB ?

Why would you or anyone POSSIBLY care about this ? The fact that he hasn’t updated this part of his web site is interesting to you ?

Come on. ACC Basketball has started – that’s a much better hobby than picking nits.

It matters in the context that it is consistent with how the Woods team has handled this whole thing – like nothing bad has happened.

You’re really bored up there…aren’t you. :-D He, or his web person didn’t update that part of the web site. He’s probably been a little busy with other things lately.

Maybe I can help with this boredom problem with a little Terapin trivia – I had no idea that Maryland had won a national football championship…back in 1953. The coach left and went to UNC…where he came down with Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever and died…which really killed the momentum that ACC football was building.

It’s kind of funny, we won the ’53 national title because the final vote was conducted BEFORE the bowl games. We lost our bowl game to Oklahoma but were already national champions.

This is a golf blog, there are plenty of basketball blogs if that is what you are interested in. But if you’re not interested in golf(and TW is the biggest story in golf), then why are you wasting my time by posting here? (that is a rhetorical question, please don’t feel obligated to respond and waste my time some more)
And Ryan, you’re response is spot on….TW has handled every aspect of this scandal as absolutely wrong as possible, at least he’s consistent.

AHA….gotcha…you demand your right to talk about anything that you like but you imply that Ryan, the blogmaster himself, should not be writing about the things that he likes…
“Sounds like someone bought himself a bigger hammer for Christmas. Enjoying taking big swings at Tiger, RB ?

Why would you or anyone POSSIBLY care about this ? The fact that he hasn’t updated this part of his web site is interesting to you ?"

…the clear implication is that Ryan is offbase by posting what is clearly about golf. How’s it feel to be clearly identified as a HYPOCRITE, courtgolf?

Duping, and updating.

Tell you guys what…….Don’t turn to the Golf Channel the next couple of days. They are sneaking in some Tiger programming. I know that some of the more sensitive posters here are on suicide watch because Tiger Duped them. I see that Ryan has joined in the paparazzi TMZ style of reporting. Although, i think it’s too late to cripple him financially. Hey Ryan, he already has a Billion. He doesn’t need another nickel from the endorsers. I hear you guys chirping about “these guys are good”, yet all i see is Tiger Woods posts. Who are the “good guys” you speak of? I repeat Tiger Woods is being featured on TGC so please do not watch. I will report back to you “fans” when this anamoly is over. In the meantime feel free to tune into the home shopping network, or Dr. Phil, or desperate houswives, or any of the emotionally secure programs which cater to the sensitive side of you fans. Hey, better yet watch one of the “judge” shows; since some of you more “honorable” fellas seem to have become overnight Judges yourselves. Again, do not watch TGC, as they are featuring a golfer who has cheated on all of you “gentlemen” a golfer who won tournaments, but was lying to you all. A golfer who won the US Open with one leg, but failed to report to you about his infidelities. Please for your own sanity. avoid TGC. Watch at your own risk. Your mental stability is at stake. You may begin to feel duped all over again. And if you must watch: by all means tell your significant other that you will be crying, and making wimpering noises. Do not watch The Golf Channel as they are showing GOLF highlights. From the worlds #1 golfer. Don’t watch……..it’s just masterful golf by a golfing master. A 4 time Masters Champion, and a 14 time Major winner. Do not watch; because after all he cheated on his wife, and wrecked his truck.

Last Night LOLOL

I tuned into TGC on TV and was greeted by a repeat of one of the Tavistock Cups featuring TW, so I switched over to the Football game. Then later on I flipped over to TGC again and it was a repeat of the 2005 Firestone tournament featuring, you guessed it, Tiger. So I returned to the football game. Before bed I switched over to the Golf Channel again and what did I see ? Tom Hawkins, Rich ( Hair Piece ) Lerner and Bob Abbott, groveling about Tiger Woods. I’d seen enough so I took one of my old 9 irons and had at it with my TV and put it in a floating box and dropped it into the Atlantic. I’m told TW is off the coast here somewhere in his boat “Infidelity” , I mean “Privacy” and perhaps the crew will spot that box and give it new life on board. BTW, good football game last night as “DA BEARS” won in overtime….jumpn/progolf

Tiger Woods’ Indiscretions Cost Sponsors $12 Billion
As goes the image, so go the profits. At least they do for Tiger Woods’ sponsors, if not necessarily the man himself.

While Woods’ temporarily stymied endorsement deals may cause a small drop in his usual $100-million-per-year haul, it’s his stuck-by-him sponsors that are really feeling the fallout of the golfer’s rather spectacular fall from grace.

According to a study conducted by two University of California at Davis economics professors—who looked at stock market returns for Woods’ sponsor companies in the 13 trading days immediately following his Thanksgiving revelation, ending a week after he announced he would be indefinitely leaving the sport—sticking by Tiger may have cost the companies as much as $12 billion.

Which means (sorry, Tiger defenders) there was a little more than standard fluctuations in the market at play.

Nike, Gatorade and EA Sports were hit hardest as a result of their carefully worded vows of support for the cheater extraordinaire, losing a total of $6 billion, while the consulting firm Accenture—whose profits don’t so much depend on the opinionated whims of Joe Public—managed to escape their since-severed association with no negative financial effects to their company.

Which is all fine and dandy, but what we really want to know is, now that the revolving door of Tiger’s mistresses has (for now) stopped and the media haze has started to clear, will Woods’ private life affect your spending sprees?

by niblic on Dec 29, 2009 2:20 PM EST up reply actions

ah - the "experts"

I love these guys. They shove their credentials in your face – tell you that they somehow came up with this idea to check up on all of these companies all on their own. (dollars to doughnuts – someone from a media outlet called them to get their opinion) – THEN they release their “research” with the word “MAY” slipped in just for safety’s sake.

Day one – lesson one – Econ 101…There is no such thing as a one handed economist – they will ALWAYS leave themselves room to say “on the other hand.”

In a new development...

Gloria Allred is pissed that the lawyer for the man accused of extorting money from David Letterman has filed legal docs saying Allred and Rachel Uchitel did essentially the same thing.

Allred told TMZ that Robert Halderman’s lawyer, Gerald Shargel, does not have permission to use her name or the name of her client. Gloria adds, “I have no personal knowledge of his client’s case and he has no personal knowledge and therefore, no basis for his remarks about my representation of Ms. Uchitel.”

Shargel wants the case against his client booted, in part because of the new Tiger Woods defense.

Gloria added this zinger: “…Mr. Shargel should spend his time representing his client based solely on the facts of his case, rather than comparing it to other matters of which he has no personal knowledge.”

In other words, Rachel’s settlement was confidential.

…gotta just love lawyers!!!! LOL

the old joke of a thousand lawyers on a sinking ship being a “good start” just doesn’t fit anymore – we need aircraft carriers full of lawyers. :-)

So now the guy who should go to jail for extortion against David Letterman is on a crusade against other extortionists ? Funny thing, though – Rachel Uchitel is the one who DIDN’T try to take Tiger for anything.

When I saw that Tiger Woods’ fall from grace cost stockholders in various companies 12 billion dollars, I recalled that Phil Knight called it a “minor blip”…. I shudder to think what Phil consideres a major blip…. Hey, Tiger Woods gone from golf….no big deal. Sure hope my WR buddy wasn’t invested in Gillette….or one of their subsidiaries. To think I may have been within a 1000 miles of Tiger Woods when we were in Florida.

Sometimes the $hit comes down so heavy you need a hat....

Thanks boys! I did let the hat out as much as possible…. Florida weather was “unseasonably cool”. The day we chose for our ride to Tarpon Springs from St. Pete it was quite nippy. We did not expect to need jackets but were glad to have them. Two years ago we made the same ride with t-shirts and worked up a sweat….this year, not so much…. Frankly I’m a bit tapped out on the whole Tiger Woods thing, and that’s an understatement. We had an incredible 11 years of entertainment from Tiger, if it’s over….well it’s over. He sure took the world for a ride! The gap between him and the rest of the field was so large, #2 looks like the winner of the member/guest. As for me, my next big event will be the Wine Country Tandem Rally in September…

Did you watch the bowl game in Orlando last night ? The Wisconsin sideline was in shortsleeves and some of the staff had on shorts while the entire Miami sideline was in long sleeves, coats, standing around heaters… (lol)

dianemarie, I love

the word “Celebutard”. How about Celebretard?

Also, court, thanks. Until today, I never knew how to spell “Nyuk, nyuk, nyuk”.

Dianemarie & court, let’s give the newbies a little more time. Remember, we didn’t start having perfect comments for at least a month.
