TAG Heuer Scales Back Tiger Woods, Features Prominently on Website
On December 18, Swiss watch maker TAG Heuer announced that they were scaling back the use of Tiger Woods from US advertising for some period of time following everything that has happened related to the golf megastar.
Well, is this what they call scaling back in Switzerland?
This image is featured on Tag Heuer's front page. The linked story reiterates their stance on their relationship with Woods:
"The partnership with Tiger Woods will continue," said Jean-Christophe Babin, President and CEO of TAG Heuer, "but we will downscale the use of his image in certain markets for a period of time, depending on his decision about returning to professional golf. We will continue to actively support the Tiger Woods Foundation."
I would not call this downscaling, but that's just me.

No – it’s called trying to get through Christmas with good Swiss timing. :-) Things have changed in the last 10 days. Aside from a sneaking suspicion that the Match Play will be moving the 2 seed into the #1 spot and sliding everybody else up…there won’t be a whole lot of sponsors dropping out.

Why would you NOT call it downscaling? Words have meaning for you just the same as everyone else. If TAG Heuer is using Tiger’s image less in certain markets for a period of time like they say they are, then that is downscaling, no matter what you think, but then that’s just me and every other reasonable person in this world.
I would say that featuring Woods on their website in big bold graphics is not downscaling – at least when it comes to the website.

Not to mention
The free publicity from articles like this one and the fact that people will go to their website to check to see if it is still there. “Riding the fence” or Golden Goose is one of the oldest tricks in the marketing and PR book but only if it doesn’t come back to bite your company in its collective watch or @SS..jumpn/progolf

This was definitely a very calculated ploy.

Maybe it was downsized.
I’d imagine the original had him hugging the Mother Teresa in some Forest Gump-style photoshopping while sporting some Tag schwag.
Tag Heuer is getting their name out there. In selling watches, isn’t “timing” everything?? Using the internet to support “Woodie” Is a way of doing so with minimal output. It’s attention getting, and it keeps their name in the public’s eye……..Brilliant!!

F&G’s hahahahaha, very good and for ONCE we agree on something, see that, it’s not that hard to be civil once your in a civil arena. Then again the golf season hasn’t started yet. I hear Lerner asked Santa for a new Hair Piece this year. Unfortunatly it will probably catch fire one the way down the chimney, but I’m sure he can find a divot to replace it somewhere. Anywho, Happy Holidays to ya. jumpn/progolf
