Tim Finchem Impersonations Through History
At yesterday's press conference, Tim Finchem talked a little about Jason Sudeikis' impersonation of him on SNL in the last few weeks. Of Sudeikis' effort, the PGA Tour Commish said, "I didn't think the guy did me very well. He got the tie right."
He probably should've stopped there, but he kept going.
Saturday Night Live spoofs the PGA Tour's sponsor problems
"I told our folks here I wanted to do is have this press conference on video and then have all of our -- have a blank wall behind me, and as I'm talking, people are coming in and putting up the logos of our sponsors until the wall is falling down from so many logos because we have about 90 sponsors, but they didn't think that would go over that well."
Tim, if you're going to let Jason Sudeikis get under your skin like that, you guys may want to settle the score with a Dizzybat race. (What's dizzybat, you say? Watch this.) It's a throwdown!
I'm kidding. Finchem took the impersonation jokingly. He quipped later, "Let me just parenthetically say that the rumor that I keep on flask on my desk is not true, that was spawned by the Saturday Night Live telecast on Saturday night."
He added, "[The Tour staff] did present me with an honorary flask, and I'm enjoying that."
Since it was so evident that Commissioner Finchem lacked an illustrious history as pop culture fodder, I wanted to bring to you a history of Tim Finchem impersonations done in films, TVs, and such.
We begin with the 1996 golf classic Happy Gilmore. Dennis Dugan, the film's director, also played Doug Thompson in the part of the commissioner of the tour on which Happy Gilmore and Shooter McGavin were battling it out for title of best player.
Take a look at the resemblance!

Well, that ends the Tim Finchem Impersonation Retrospective. Hope you enjoyed it!

the traditional weakness of journalistic writing…especially when there is a bias against someone….is that you don’t know the tone of the answers. Finchem isn’t exactly Robin Williams, but he does have a good sense of humor. Those answers could have been given completely tongue in cheek with a big grin and we’d never know it.

Oh, he was totally kidding. I was on the call – actually enjoyed the tone of the answer.

and yet, there was no attempt to pass that along – especially the “Tim, if you’re going to let Jason Sudeikis get under your skin like that…” line.

I did clear it up some. Like I said, I thought that part of the conference was funny and he handled it well for a guy that never gets impersonated like that.

the dizzybat line was very funny, but that’s not connected to Finchem’s statement. (I had to hit the link to find out what dizzybat was – still a classic at minor league baseball games – always funny)

I really just wanted to work the video into the post somehow. That was the only way I could think of doing it.
