Report: Elin Nordegren to Leave Tiger Woods

In what may win the Waggle Roomie for Least Surprising Headline of the Year, People Magazine is reporting that Elin Nordegren is planning to separate from Tiger Woods and pursue divorceCourtney Hazlett is also reporting that the announcement will be made after the holidays - in line with what British tabloids have claimed.

Then again, another "source" in the article talks about how Woods has a long way to go in order to earn Elin's forgiveness.  If she's leaving him, does it really much matter?  At that point, the courts will decide how forgiving she has to be regarding their two children.

Take this report for what you will, but expect to see a slew of stories like this as we enter Christmas.

Fa-la-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la.

If true,

then this thing just keeps getting worse. I was hoping they could work it out and we would see the “new and improved” Tiger. So Sad.

Hope springs eternal....I think we all were...except for 3irons...he was hoping for chemical castration

One comment I read said that because Elin is European, sexual indiscretion isn’t such a big deal… I don’t see the new and improved Tiger being much different that the new and improved Golf Channel. But without the Tiger detractors and defamers blogs will be smaller and smaller. One more thing: Tiger is now the subject of Doonesbury. Even Kobe didn’y get that…

Chemical????.....yeah, only if

by chemical you mean using a spoon and a butter knife…..ouch!!! This whole thing, from the fire hydrant to PED’s is crazier that anything Hollywood could come up with, and if we knew all of the truth…….well let’s just say……we may not be able to handle the truth!!…..Go Figure!

way to go em – glad SOMEbody still remembers and sticks up for that poor fire hydrant ! (leave the tree to the tree huggers) :-D

Most people are racist and bigoted when

it comes to hydrants. I have to say, I have soft spot in my heart for hydrants, no matter what country of origin they have. It is high time that people become more tolerant and loving of hydrants, regardless of color, although I have to admit I am a little biased to the yellow ones. Any dogs found abusing hydrants should be captured and water boarded. Tiger is a hydrant hater!

LOL – I missed the Doonesbury strips – pretty good.

Did you see that Trudeau released a book of Doonesbury back in October called “Tee Time in Berzerkistan”. (a coincidence ? mmmaaaayyyybee ?? hmmm)

Why can’t we see a “new and improved” Tiger following a divorce ? You know the old saying – “you don’t know what you had until you lose it.”

At least this way he won’t be dealing with the stress of leading a double life and lying to people every single day. I could see that translating to an improved mental state on the course. Of course, maybe it wasn’t stressful, which would truly be sad.

by Double Eagle on Dec 16, 2009 10:36 AM EST up reply actions

Wasn't it Kind of a Foregone Conclusion?

Yeah, we don’t know what it’s like behind closed doors. But my thinking is, OK, so if it was one woman or even two, and Tiger and Elin really do love each other, then I can see them trying to work it out. But when you get up to possibly 14 women (and that’s the ones that are known or suspected – the sad thing is, it could be many more), then it’s at a completely different level.

To me, none of this is Elin’s fault, but if she doesn’t have the self-respect to walk away once the transgression count passed one or two, then I wouldn’t know what to say. It’s harsh to say, but she would look like a chump and naturally, money would be seen as a possible motive for staying.

…or, for the children.

Yes, that occurred to me

But, I wonder how much benefit there is to children when two people that don’t love each other stay together for the children’s sake. It sounds like a childhood full of dysfunction, resentment, fighting, and unhappiness. Not to mention that the life Tiger Woods leads is already conducive to not being around anyway. I can’t help but wonder if the kids are best served by having divorced parents in a case like this.

by Double Eagle on Dec 16, 2009 11:42 AM EST up reply actions

why would you assume that just because parents stay together for the sake of the kids that there would always be fighting and unhappiness and resentment, etc etc etc ? I have known a number of families who did that and made it work because children are better off with two parents. Of course, this would take the conversation in a thousand different socio-political-economic directions that would make heads explode…. :-)

I've known that to happen too

But when parents just don’t feel the spark anymore and hold it together amicably for the kids, that’s one thing.

When a husband totally destroys all semblance of trust by sleeping with women all over the planet and the wife is subject to embarrassment by having this exposed for the whole world to see, I’m wagering that living together as friends is probably off the table, but obviously that’s just a suspicion.

by Double Eagle on Dec 16, 2009 11:56 AM EST up reply actions

yeah – “spark” has definitely replaced “committment” that our parents chose in marriage.

by courtgolf on Dec 16, 2009 11:59 AM EST up reply actions

Committment has been dead for decades

What’s the percent of marriages that end in divorce? 40%? 50%? Whatever it is, it’s ridiculous. I’ve seen it happen so many times myself and I wonder – what were they thinking? The saddest part is that the children are the ones that end up getting the short end of the stick. Of course, the injustice continues beyond that with lopsided alimony payments and the like. It’s just a bad situation all around.

yep – since the 60’s when “if it feels good – do it” replaced “semper fidelis”

And

“If it feels good – do it” has been replaced by, “JUST DO IT” apparently.

New Nike Slogan

“Just do it, and do it, and do it, and do it.”…..Perhaps Tiger’s greatest ability may be compartmentalization. It’s said that Clinton was very good at that. “The Hat” is “out for delivery” according to the UPS Tracker…. I just got back from my bi-monthly platelet donation…been doinf that for almost 4 years. Fellow golfers, consider a blood donation, or go the second mile and donate blood platelets. It’s like donating an organ without donating an organ.

of course another option could be that she still loves him…it seems crazy to me to want to stay, especially knowing what we know, but there are people (both men & women) who can convince themselves that despite all the signs, it’s worth it to honor their commitment or to believe in their feelings….or the dreaded…I think I can change them…

Always a possibility

I don’t think it’s so far fetched that he could be changed. Having the house of cards completely crumble might be a signal that living that kind of life is not sustainable, especially for a person that’s a control freak. The question is whether the damage is too much to overcome.

by Double Eagle on Dec 16, 2009 1:02 PM EST up reply actions

Don’t be too sure of that – some people are just that “committed” (define the word any way you want)

How about (former Atlanta Falcon) Andre Rison shooting in the general direction of then girlfriend Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes and she stayed with him. Asked why, she said, “because I LLOOOOooooooveeee him.”

A few months later, Lopes, during a party, tosses his clothes in a bathtub of the $4 million mansion they lived in, lit them on fire, and burned down the entire house. Rison kept her around saying, “but I LLLOOOOooooove her.”

Yes – some people are just that crazy.

Certainly True

The only thing I’m sure of is that I’m not sure of anything.

by Double Eagle on Dec 16, 2009 1:54 PM EST up reply actions

I definitely believe Tiger can change…but it has to come from him…the hopeful girlfriend/wife who thinks they have the power to “change a man” usually ends up disappointed or in denial.
