In Kyung Kim Wins Omega Dubai Ladies Masters
Women’s professional golf is all wrapped up for 2009. From AP:
Honolulu’s Michelle Wie put on a show and a strong rally to finish second in the Omega Dubai Ladies Masters at the Emirates Golf Club in Dubai.
Wie, who started the day six shots back of leader and eventual winner In Kyung Kim, shot a bogey-free 7-under-par 65 to finish with a 15-under 273.
Kim of South Korea shot a 4-under 68 for a four-round total of 18-under 270 to win by three shots.
Wie had three birdies on the front and four on the back, including three in a row on Nos. 12-14.
She got within two shots of Kim with a hole — the par-5 18th — left. But Wie parred the hole and Kim birdied it.
Kim, who plays her golf with an almost perpetual smile on her face, has quietly played some of the best golf in the last 15 months. She won for the first time in late 2008 and then followed that up with a more than solid 2009. A win at the State Farm Classic, $1,238,396.00 in earnings, and 8th on the LPGA money list. Kim could be the #2 South Korean player in the world right now. It is either her or Na Yeon Choi. Of course, Ji Yai Shin is #1.
Michelle Wie finished 2009 on a strong note. I expect her to be in the winner’s circle at least once during the 2010 LPGA tour campaign.

yet another good finish......
Well, that should do it on the distaff side.. Michelle did her job, no question she earned that appearance money. Will she fill the gap left by Tiger’s absence…not likely…If I were a golf writer, I’d be tightening my belt a notch….
I thought she would fold and start limping after her first bad shot?
She finished strong. Maybe our petulant little coed is growing up. Great final round.

don’t confuse the limp with folding. the limp is the excuse if the bad play continues…it goes away after a birdie. :-D
"this ball will fit in that fairway"
Hmmm, a cynical humanitarian....
Isn’t that an oxymoron? (LOL)

Money
It occurred to me after reading this article again that nowhere does it mention how much Kim won… In fact, I can’t remember the last time I saw one of those huge silly sized checks being presented to a winner. No broadcaster would dare bring up first place prize money at the Masters, which I believe is in excess of $1.5 million. I do remember recently seeing a block of hundred dollar biils for the ADT LPGA tournament, then there’s an old picture of a pro getting his winnings at Las Vegas many years ago as a wheel barrow of silver dollars. Monday tournament results used to show the leaderboard AND the money distribution… Could it be that the Tour doesn’t want to show us that even being in the top ten is a very good way to make a living? Seems like the money side of golf has been minimized on a weekly basis.
More money
Maybe, ping, they are embarrassed showing off how much they get in these tough economic times. The man on the street might just feel alienated.
If you go to the LPGA website
And look for the results of any tournament this year, the player’s scores and how much money they won are listed with the tournament’s final results.
Yes, I know that and I've done it.
It seems money is not mentioned as prominently as it once was. As I recall it takes several key strokes to get the tournament money distribution on PGATour.com.

Congrats to Kim on the win. But it is good to see Laura Davies playing better. For those that watched the Solheim Cup she was terrible in the 1st session and had a heartbreaking loss in the singles. So its good to see her playing better. But a player that I think is going to have a great year next year is Anna Nordqvist. 2 wins this year including a major. And see if Wie can back up her win in Mexico next year.
