Is Golf Channel REALLY going to show the final round of the 2009 LPGA Tour Championship Live?

GC is proudly promoting their coverage of the LPGA Tour Championship-

Final-round coverage of the LPGA Tour Championship will be seen LIVE on Golf Channel Monday from 4-6 p.m. ET

However check out what the LPGA website is saying-

Play will resume on Monday morning at 7 a.m. and a cut will be made to low 70 and ties before players re-tee for the final round with an expected finish time of 4 p.m. local.

4 pm local time is 5 pm ET or Eastern Standard Time. If GC does the broadcast beginning at 4 p.m., it is more than likely tape delayed. I am sure the LPGA doesn't want to flirt with play, if only a sudden death playoff, being extended to Tuesday. There is only enough sunlight to play golf till a little past 5 p.m. local time.

There is no excuse for GC not to televise today's final round live. Why don't they give it expanded coverage(more than two hours) in light of how much is riding on today's final round? There is a precedent for GC to expand its coverage. In 2006 they aired the LPGA Championship for 4-5 hours rather than the scheduled 2-3 after a Nationwide event that was to be played the same weekend was canceled.

Yeah, seems like it’s going to be tape delayed. There’s an argument that a tape-delayed showing gets the biggest audience. But this is probably contractual.

According to Golfchannel.com, they were on the course at 7am central to finish the second round so they can get the third round started.

Live coverage is scheduled from 3-5pm eastern….so if you were hoping to see that P90X or the Skycaddie infomercials, you’ll have to wait until tomorrow. :-D

I hope my DVR catches it. I looked at the schedule right before I left for work this morning. I saw something from 10:00 to noon that said LPGA, but nothing beyond.

Truth has a well-known liberal bias.

Choi's round through 10

birdie – birdie – birdie – birdie – par – par – par – par – eagle (holed out at the par 4 9th) – stop for a dog and a coke – then back on the birdie train at 10.

Is a Golf Channel delayed broadcast better than live ? Sitting here watching the LPGA – EVERY time Anna Nordqvist is on the green, they show the same series of made putts. We get it already – stop showing the same thing over and over again.

(and will someone help Nordqvist and Miyazato out with their wardrobes ? this is some hideous looking clothing)

“This is the most important bogie putt of [Lorena Ochoa’s] year” — REALLY. How much money do you get for winning the PoY ?? Oh yeah – NONE.

“[Ji Yai Shi] would pay a lot of money to have [Anna Nordqvist’s] shot…” REALLY ??? She would give money to win an award that doesn’t add anything to her bank account ?

Good lord, xxx Golf Channel REALLY needs someone to do some firing and hiring.

Nordqvist is “KNOWN for winning prestigious events” ??? REALLY ?? She won the Women’s British Am “back when she was an amateur” (duh).

These women are pure torture to listen to.

Val Skinner should never do another interview. After that embarrassing effort last week with Michelle Wie – today was even worse.

“You just DUSTED the #1 player in the world by 2 shots” ? WTF !!! Did you not notice the rest of the field…and she was playing with Jiyai Shin !!

“This is your second win of the year having won the McDonalds LPGA earlier in the season…what made the difference to bring you back to here ?” What the hell does that even mean ? The Swede speaks better English than Skinner.

“Do you have a little shout out to Annika ? I know she has been an inspiration for you to help you get to this point ? (no break to let Nordqvist answer) Is there anything you’d like to say about capturing your second win on the LPGA Tour ?” Again – What the hell does that mean and how did you manage to put those two “thoughts” together ? (using the term loosely)

“UNbelievable golf today – we’d all like to get a shot at that putter.” Again….HUH ????

Thank god they switched to Stephanie Sparks for the Ochoa interview.

Ok – maybe not – Sparks has been toeing the company line making it sound like winning the PoY was more important than winning the tournament. Incredible.

ah – back to Val Skinner to talk to Shin – Skinner doesn’t ask questions in English and Shin struggles with speaking English. This ought to be a winner.

Did you sleep last night ?…What went through your mind today ?…Did you learn anything so you can get in this position again ? (what – coming in second place in the PoY ?)

Does Skinner think they celebrate Thanksgiving in Korea ?

dude, some things are more important than money

OK, so it’s not like Ochoa needed another POY and Vare Trophy to get into the Hall of Fame—all she needs is 10 years on tour for that. But when you’re talking about defining eras on the LPGA, well, Ochoa extended her streaks to 4 years running. From what I’ve heard about her 2010 schedule (playing the 2 LPGA events in Asia and the 2 LET-ALPG events in Australia to start the season), I’m guessing she’s pretty motivated to make it 5 in a row for each. That would match Annika’s streak in POY and Mickey Wright’s in scoring average.

History, baby! The Wie Era can wait. The 2009ers may have won 7 tournaments in their rookie year, but Lorena’s still #1.

I’ll give you that – they WANT to win PoY – but to make it sound like that award is more important than winning the tournament is just nuts.

Ochoa's playing for history

Of course she wanted to win the tournament. But when she couldn’t birdie the par-5 16th to put pressure on Nordqvist and give herself a decent chance to clinch POY outright by beating her, you can bet all your marbles she wanted solo 2nd really badly. Plus, getting back to -11 at least gave her a chance for a playoff if the rookie were to screw up her last hole badly. Didn’t happen for her, but she got lucky with Shin’s last 2 holes anyway. Sometimes you need to be lucky to make a little history.

It’s clear that Ochoa’s already thinking about her legacy. That means winning more majors, more POYs, more Vare Trophys, more money-list titles. She may not plan to play long enough to come close to challenging Sorenstam’s total wins, but I’m thinking she certainly wants to pass Webb and Inkster at least in wins and majors….

Here we go – now Brian Hammons has to get in on the fun…“I’m not sure she realizes you just don’t know you’ll ever be in that position again.” Nice job Mr Condescending.

They were talking about Shin’s goal of winning RoY but coming very close to winning the PoY and Vare awards to go along with RoY and the Money List. Guess what BH – she WON’T ever be in that situation again – you can only win RoY once.

golf channel, yikes !!!

I believe TGC needs a total FACE LIFT. The reporting is so tilted and one sided it might as well be called, the TW channel or the MW channel. I’ve switched over to this site for blogging as there seems to be a much better balance of fairness with the articles. Over at TGC you are limited to blogging on articles mostly about TW and MW and thats just wrong. Their TV time isn’t much better either. Keep up the good work on this site as I am totaly enjoying all the good stories. Very Fair and Balanced !!!
