I found another mistake in the golf record books
It involves one of the LPGA's all-time greats. Lets begin with a little background. According to the LPGA Media Guide book and online records, Only 3 golfers have won the same tournament on five different occasions. They are-
Se Ri Pak Jame Farr Toledo
Annika Sorenstam Mizuno Classic
Annika Sorenstam Samsung World Championship
Mickey Wright Sea Island Open
While looking up some information on Amy Alcott today, I did a google search for her first tournament win, the Orange Blossom Classic. The OBC, which was aka USX Golf Classic and S&H Golf Classic, was played in St. Petersburg Florida from 1963 to 1989. My google search found this 1971 Boca Raton News article.
It said only that Kathy Whitworth was a four time winner(1965, 1968-1970) of the OBC. When I checked the tournament's history, I discovered she also won the tournament in 1974. Taking it one step further, I checked the list of Whitworth's 88 tour victories. The tournament is listed all five times. Whitworth therefore belongs on the list I cited up above.
A major record involving none other than a Hall of Famer and the Tour's most prolific winner in its history, has slipped through the cracks. I will say it again, both the PGA and LPGA have many holes in their record keeping. Golf's history is getting lost in the process.

If you would just check Golfstats, we show it this way:

But again your tactics of pissing off people and thinking that we are doing this in vain is a turnoff.
I know that a lot of folks would like to get this right but there is a big problem, nobody wants to spend the money and all these tours want to own there records. They don’t want to sanction a Golfstats as a source because they don’t own it, so Golfstats gets lost.
Even yourself didn’t go to Golfstats to get the answer, you went to Google. So that is the problem people spend too much time bitching about a problem and not finding solutions

Sal,
But the Guidebooks and another source. I clearly stated that. Also I linked to GO that had the correct information.
Paper records aren’t the only thing getting lost because the tours either want to hoard their records or can’t keep those that they do maintain. Try looking for video of say Birdie Kim’s 2005 US Open bunker shot, or Karrie Webb’s final hole eagle at the 2006 Kraft Nabisco. LPGA videos are hard to come by.
It is so often said today is a visual age but if you lock your videos in a vault, how is anybody to appreciate it?
Again it’s all about money and how much these tours can make. It’s a real shame that they don’t do things the right way but nobody has control over the video’s other than the right’s holder.
One day the wisdom of all these orgazations will make all of this open so that we can send and use them just like we are writing and sending these messages.
But right now greed and control run all of this
Videos
Here’s something the Tours should consider. Put their videos up on their websites but have commercials embedded in them. The tours can raise money by the selling of advertising, keep ownership of their videos, and keep the history of the game alive.
The precedent for doing this is out there. Websites like CBS and Hulu have video archives of old television shows with advertisements embedded in them. Who needs to buy The Time Tunnel on DVD for 29,99 when you can watch it on hulu?
Bill, we need to get our mindset
off of commercial ads on the web as a solution to anything. Within a decade it is expected there will be virtually zero printed matter (mags and papers) of consequence in the world. By that time, the presence of pop-ups, rollovers and mandatory prior-to-view commercials needs to be eliminated totally. We are already paying for these ads. Let them figure out how to generate income without ruining our online experience.
What if your monthly Golf Digest was 99% ads, would you renew your subscription? Same with a local newspaper having nothing but car ads? We need to let these bigger players understand if they have pop-ups and the like we are going elsewhere. If they want to exist they will give us the content we demand. The internet gives immediate results who is ‘watching’ what and the big boys will watch this 10x closer than the Nielsen ratings.
This is why I give out the Poop Awards.

How about a little patience? The ad will be over in 15 seconds and you can close that pop-up right away.
These companies need to generate income to keep their doors open.
Looking up who won the 1927 US Open (Tommy Armour) used to require a trip to the library. Now I can do it in 7 seconds on my blackberry while I’m in the Dunkin Donuts drive-thru getting an XL coffee with 3 splenda and skim milk.
We’ve got it pretty good!
