I wonder if Rodney Page knows Ms. Blalock was at the center of one of golf's biggest scandals over 35 years ago. Probably not........

Interesting interview for the most part. I didn’t know that the Legends Tour got started with 25 women putting up $5,000 apeice. And how about that Dr Haruhisa Handa putting up the money for the Legends Tour Championship himself. (was he the honorary chairman of the tour before he did that ?)

I didn’t know about the court case in 1972 either. Interesting reading – and typical of our legal syste. She was accused of improving her lie numerous times in tournaments and the Tour said they had witnesses…but Blalock won the suit because antitrust laws (The Sherman Act) say that a group of people (like a golf tour) can’t have a board of peers handing out suspensions the way they did. In other words – the facts didn’t matter – Blalock found a loophole and the court ruled in her favor.

How about Rodney Page chasing down old news ? Where did that question about the “English Only” rule, which was never an English ONLY policy, come from ?

“If you were the LPGA commissioner now, would you have instituted an English-only rule like Carolyn Bivens did (and later retracted)?

No. You just have to get more personality from the players who can speak English."

She’s NOT the LPGA commissioner, so her hindsight opinion doesn’t really count – but her response is almost a dumb as the way Bivens went about trying to get non-English speaking players to learn English. I guess Blalock hasn’t figured out that American players aren’t exactly filling up the winner’s circle. The media doesn’t do a lot of interviews with the non-winners. And she completely missed the idea – for players to be able to intereact with sponsors and pro-am partners. Getting more “personality from the players who can speak English” doesn’t help the pro-am groups without an English speaking pro.
