Ladies & Gentlemen, Meet the Face of Doping in Golf
A few years ago, Tiger Woods was talking with some scribes at a WGC event and was asked by a European journo about the possibility of doping in golf. Candidly, Tiger said he thought it was a real possibility and that he endorsed an anti-doping policy in golf. Seemingly overnight, doping in golf became an earnest debate. The end result was a drug policy from the LPGA Tour, European Tour, and PGA Tour.
The PGA Tour's policy launched in late 2007 (was implemented in July 2008) and no one had been identified as a player to fail a test...until about 30 minutes ago.
From the office of Tim Finchem, we find out that the first player to be caught under the PGA Tour's anti-doping policy is Doug Barron.
Who?
40 year old Doug Barron. This guy:

Barron hasn't really been lighting it up on Tour this year. Four starts on the Nationwide Tour yielded three MCs and a DQ. One start on the PGA Tour in Memphis brought about another MC. Maybe we could have seen this coming given that he's made $0 this year and even got DQ'd for some kind of violation of the rules. Compare that to his career best T3 at the Nelson in 2005, and Barron has fallen quite far.
Well, we don't know what banned substance that he took, but we do know that he's banned from the Tour for a year and he's really sorry.
"I would like to apologize for any negative perception of the TOUR or its players resulting from my suspension. I want my fellow TOUR members and the fans to know that I did not intend to gain an unfair competitive advantage or enhance my performance while on TOUR," said Barron.

This should be interesting. I wonder if they will release the substance.

This reminds me of baseball. The big boys keep blasting away and some stiff you’ve never heard of in Triple-A gets a 50-day suspension.

And there’s probably a really good chance that this guy was just taking some kind of andro-crap from GNC that doesn’t work.
