Meet the (Sort of) Naked Ladies of the LPGA Tour

ESPN: The Magazine's Body Issue features pictorials of athletes from all walks of sport in nude or almost nude poses - with creative sporting-coveralls.  Three LPGA ladies agreed to pose for the issue: Anna Grzebien, Sandra Gal, and Christina Kim.  Devil Ball Golf has a post up with the pic.

So, I would say this worked out pretty well, right?

I mean, these ladies are in the same magazine as people who really stand to gain nothing by doing this, like Serena Williams and Dwight Howard.  No one can really say this is some kind of publicity stunt just for the LPGA Tour, and it can't hurt that the ladies look good.

And, this isn't really controversial in any way.  I mean, if you want to talk publicity stunt, let's talk about Sophie Sandolo's nude calendars.  Here are some sample (and NSFW) pictures from her calendar where she actually shows the Full Monty.  (Maybe we should get rid of that term.  Colin Montgomerie naked sounds horrifying.)

Samsung must be kicking themselves now that we can't watch a tournament they sponsor on one of their fine LCD HDTVs (one of which I own).

break out the wolf whisle :-)

Looking good, ladies.

Ok – I love the female form as much as most men – but I don’t see how this has any place in a sports magazine. What’s the point – cute girls can play golf ? There is nothing here that screams “see what makes me such a good athlete ?” (and I’m sorry CK – but I smell air brushing) At least SI doesn’t pretend to be doing anything other than putting hot women in bikinis…or parts of bikinis.

Did you notice the g-string on CK, but not on Sandra Gal (from Europe) – can’t tell on Grzebian

Well Done

Sports is, after all, entertainment and this photo has a cheery, fun-loving, vibe. The girls are smiling and posing in a light, natural, sporty way. No sultry pouting and overtly sexualised positions like the SI Swimsuit girls (some of whom have been athletes).

The message of this issue is “body image” and that’s an important message. These ladies – and a lot of the other athletes featured – don’t have classic model’s bodies but they look great. There’s only a small part of the population that’s as tall and thin and young and perfectly shaped as the SI Swimsuit Models and the Victoria’s Secret Models, but that’s the body image we’re always presented with as something to aspire too. Serena Williams’ photo is phenomenally beautiful IMO, and she’s certainly not model sized. No I think it’s really good idea and I think it’ll be more positive than negative for the girls and the LPGA. Now for ESPN, if they were in fact trying to keep up with SI Swimsuit, I don’t think they made it near sexy enough.

I’m hoping it’s well received though.

Take a look at Serena’s picture again. That girl has a serious athletic physique and musculature. They didn’t pose the golf girls in any sort of athletic pose – just (mostly) nekkid. These girls are in really good physical condition and have actual muscles, but ESPN didn’t show it. No problem with the girls – woohoo zesty ! I think they got cheated by the magazine turning them into glorified beer cart girls.

I notice RB’s taking his sweet time before posting anything that would bump this picture from the top of the page. :-)

LMAO !! I had a girlfriend once who asked me what I wanted to be if I was reincarnated – I told her the shoulder strap of her car’s seat belt. (the bruise was worth it)
