I Tried Out Microsoft Tags Inside November's Golf Digest
This month's Golf Digest magazine features a technology called Microsoft Tags. The tags are 2-D barcodes that can be photographed with a camera-enabled smart phone and read by a program developed by Microsoft. Once read, the tag directs a user to extra content to supplement what is in the magazine like an article, video, or photos.
Being a subscriber to the magazine, I thought I would give it a try for myself.

Found it, downloaded and tried…pretty cool. Have to really hold the camera steady it seems. Seems like a pretty niche play still.
Oh the content was less than riveting…but the idea is interesting.
I’m a tad skeptical on how many GD readers are a) carrying smartphones (due to technophobia vs. affluence) and b) willing to take the time to download the app, fish the phone out of their pocket, line it up just right (oh and make sure your phone has wifi because if it doesn’t this will likely be pretty slow and choppy) and THEN get the extra content.
Big fan of innovation, just sometimes not sure it’s always a lock in terms of how it’s used.
