USA!! USA!!
As the President's Cup draws near for the PGA Tour, golf fans cannot help but wonder if 2009 will be the year of the sweep for American golf team events.
Earlier this season the Americans brought home the Ryder Cup after defeating the European team in what can only be described as a gauntlet of powerful play from such Ryder-rookies as Anthony Kim, Boo Weekley, and Kenny Perry. Never before have I been so impressed by a Ryder Cup team for sheer dominance (despite what the final score may show, the Americans had this wrapped up pretty early), and all without the "Not-so-secret Weapon" Tiger Woods.
A few months later, the American stars of the LPGA also dominated their European counterparts in the Solheim Cup. Once again, we saw flashes of brilliance from team-play rookies, but perhaps none as impressive as the oft-criticized Michelle Wie. Veterans and rookies alike showed that even questionable pairing choices by the US captain were a non-factor in the final result.
The American team in this year's President's Cup will also hope to match this level of brilliance in team-play when they take on the International Team... however I fear this may not be as easy this go around. For example, the likes of Tiger Woods, Kenny Perry, Phil Mickelson and others will now have to face a team consisting of stars not seen at the Ryder Cup: Vijay Singh, Retief Goosen, Camilo Villegas, and Master's Champion Angel Cabrera.

I love these team events – regardless of the outcome, they are always fun to watch…and it’s fun to be able to cheer for a team instead of just one guy.
(Ryder Cup was 2008 – but I understand what you mean)

It's Not Fair!
Shouting out “Rest of World ’Cept Europe!” doesn’t have quite the same ring about it, does it?

???
In terms of team chants – absolutely! Surely you have some sympathy for them on this score? :) They can’t really do "ole, ole, ole, " and a rousing chorus of “Waltzing Matilda” isn’t representative either. I’m working on it, however.
