Ian Poulter in Twitter Feud...With Some Random Guy
Are you on Twitter? I am - follow me, @akw144. So is the Open Champion, Stewart Cink (@stewartcink), fan favourite John Daly (@PGA_JohnDaly), and the always controversial Ian Poulter (@ianjamespoulter).
When I sat down to watch the footy this weekend, I didn’t expect my attentions to turn to what these golf stars had to say. But when a feud started between Ian Poulter and some provocative lad in the UK, I couldn’t help but be fascinated.
Maybe Poulter had some beers watching the game, but as the young lad showed delight in his ability to wind up the seven-time European Tour winner, this only seemed to get under Poulter’s skin more. Even when the juvenile retaliated with abusive taunts and expletives, Poulter seemed set on having the last word to cement his alpha status.
It’s a bit of a ‘how not to’ for celebs on Twitter. Enjoyable none the less...
The exchange is after the jump.

watch the footy ?
Interesting exchange. I can’t figure out if I am disappointed or surprised. These guys like to act like they are above “the common man”, so why would Poulter (if this is THE Ian Poulter) bother with this kind of thing ? OR, is Poulter just a regular guy with a bar room mentality ? Either way – how funny.
"this ball will fit in that fairway"
The real deal
The account is a verified Twitter account and he has some 600,000+ followers. He is the most popular British sportsman on Twitter.
Interesting question though as to why he would get involved in a confrontation in public? Let’s see if he responds… Or if he has learnt his lesson :)
I don't much of a life, but
I don’t have time to waste twittering back and forth insults with blokes and mates, guv’ner…

Sorry - us Brits!
Sorry guys, I’m from England. “Watch the ‘footy’” is Football, as in Soccer. Poulter is a mad kean Arsenal supporter. Hope the quality of the post made up for the translation issues!

Poulter
Poulter has always come across to me as a bit of a “man’s man”. He’ll square up to anyone on Twitter in the same way he would square up to anyone in a bar. (You’re right CG). Not quite sure what lesson akw144 thinks he may or may not have learnt from this exchange?
In his favour he is a Gunners (Arsenal) supporter like me, and he does post great photos of his kids.
You're So Contrary
CG – Bar/pub – same diff. You tell me – “Man’s man” is not a compliment in my book. Too much testosterone – not enough brain.
Sigh
“Bar room mentality” is English/English too – “pub(room) mentality” is not. Anyway, stop me if you have you heard this one? This chippy bloke walks up to the bar in a Scottish pub………….
