Another Great Sunday for Michelle Wie

Some golfers like AM tee times, others PM tee times. Stats show you on what day of the week players perform their best. I only checked the seven tournaments in which Michelle Wie has been in the top ten this year, but, I will tell you one thing, I am pretty impressed with her Sunday performances. Actually, there is something wrong with you if you are not impressed. The record speaks for itself.
In her seven top ten appearances, only once did she not improve her position on the last day. In that one tournament, the SBS Open, she started in a tie for first place, only to lose to Angela Stanford. Not too shabby. In all other cases, she improved her position. That is what great young teenage golfers should try to do. Just improve your weekend performances and the wins will hopefully come.
Being honest, one of her first couple rounds in these events were probably too high, but how can you possibly find anything negative about a 19 year-old girl who has seven top tens this year and six of them were the result of excellent play on Sunday?
Michelle turns twenty this coming Sunday, so she will no longer be a teenager. For whatever reason, she has not yet won a tournament on the LPGA Tour. I am sure she is disappointed. I think she is being persecuted for people's over-expectations of her for the past six years or so. Some might even still be holding onto the resentment of her receiving large amounts of endorsement money from Nike and other sponsors many years ago. Let it go, people. Life is too short. Even if she never wins an LPGA event, she is a very nice young lady and a great American golfer.

sign of the apocalypse II
Man, I know CG’s talking points so well by now that I’ll repeat one of them: it is a lot easier to put together a good or great Sunday round when you’re not in contention than when you are. This is true of everyone, including Michelle Wie. Heck, I’ve played Utica City Amateurs earlier this decade where I’d be playing fine, blow up, then go on a tear and just when I had almost brought myself back to the projected cut line for day 2, I’d tighten up and start flailing on easy approach shots and miss make-able birdie putts. Yeah, the pros are several thousand quantum leaps beyond my game, but I think the psychological challenge is the same for any golfer.
If this shows anything, though, it shows that CG’s repetition strategy is working. He’s clearly brainwashed me!

Never said she wasn’t cute – never said she wasn’t a really good golfer…do you think she’d mind if I asked her not to talk on a date ? :-)

She just keeps letting
her clubs do the talking. It does not matter who they choose for commish. If Michelle starts winning, the tour is saved. If not, NOT…

Nothing gets “saved” on the back of one person.

I’m agreeing with CG on this one!

No single event or person will sink or
save any tour. But, I believe if Michelle Wie starts having 6-7 win, 1-2 major seasons, the LPGA could enjoy it’s biggest single boost.

very possible – only time will tell. a couple of my friends have a bet that Wie won’t win in the next year – I think they started the week of the women’s us open. personally, I won’t be surprised if she doesn’t win by then – and I won’t be surprised if she does, even if she just gets lucky one week like Morgan Pressel winning her major.
