Let's Get the Suits and Bowties Out of the World Golf Hall of Fame

Wgvheader09_medium

Everything that is wrong, has ever been wrong, or even perceived to be wrong with golf is not because of those who play the play the game. It is the suits and the bowtie guys that cause all the problems. So, let's get those idiots out of the World Golf Hall of Fame. We can build a few extra, separate wings to the current HOF building in St. Augustine, FL. In the main building, you have golfers. You know, names like Palmer, Snead, Nicklaus, Hogan, Jones and Nelson. Not names like Mark McCormack, Pete Dye or even Dwight David Eisenhower. You put those people in THEIR HOF. You know, like the Golf Writers HOF. Or, the golf course designer HOF, the golf agent HOF or the former POTUS HOF.

Sixty years or so ago, professional golfers were not even allowed in the clubhouse. NO PLAYERS ALLOWED. The suits and bowtie guys could have a martini or take a pee, but not the golfers. That, of course, has changed, but the suits and bowties must still feel a sense of superiority when they vote themselves in the same august body as Ben Hogan and Bobby Jones. And, they control the voting. NO PLAYERS ALLOWED...

Throw the bastards out. Or, at least open another wing or so...

I have less problem with the guys who are in the HoF than I do with the guys that have not been put in. I can even understand spreading out those names over different areas that affect the game. I just don’t understand why they are taking so long to put some of the greatest names surrounding the game into the Hall. They don’t do a very good job of educating the public about who goes in and why. I would rather see them open the doors to put in 15 or 20 greats over the next few years to get caught up, then cut back to a few every year.

court, who do you think

should be in that is not? I’ll take a peek and give you my list.

The biggest name on my list is AW Tillinghast. No way Pete Dye should be in before Tillinghast, but I understand the PR angle they took.

There should be something to honor the Gentlemen Golfers of Edinburgh, who wrote the rules of golf in 1744.

How about some of the players in the Negro Golf League and the Royal Golf Club that started organizing golf tournaments for black players who were good enough to play with anybody in the world, but weren’t allowed in the PGA ? Starting with Charlie Sifford is ok, but a lot of history is overlooked.

Does Charles Barkley get an honorary plaque for putting up with Hank Haney ? :-)

Suits and Bowties

I have no problem with the Suits and Bowties being in the Hall Of Fame. In my mind the Players are the most important, then the Suits, and the Bowties are the least important. Mentally, I already put them in different wings.

That's probably what I should

do. If I disagree with something and cannot change it, just mentally make it right in MY head. Thank you, tatkins, where were you 50 years ago?

I just hope he doesn’t walk into any walls or doors – remember the “walls” around Les Nessman’s office on WKRP ? :-)

The LPGA does the Hall Of Fame right.

If and when a player meets a given set of criteria they are in with no vote necessary. That way the stupidity and prejudices of the voters is eliminated. The criteria for entrance into the LPGA Hall Of Fame has been changed in the past to reflect the increased competition. As long as that continues, the very best players will continue to be included.

Court, I do remember Les being a little finicky about

his “office”. What report did he always do? The ‘stringbean futures’ or something green, I think. Who was the sexiest Anderson? Loni or Pamela?

I always liked Les telling people to open the door before coming in.

Tough call on Loni or Pamela. They were the newer Ginger v Mary Ann – almost impossible to pick between the two. Loni was definitely high maintenance…but Pamela had her challenges, too.
