Things Rickie Fowler needs to learn that iPhone does not have an app for

Like any rookie, getting accustomed to life on the PGA tour is not real easy. Just finding out where to park your Lexus courtesy vehicle can be an experience. How to treat Pro-Am partners, if or when to sign autographs and what food you should have in your bag are also very, very important. Albertson_boise_open_round_one_bj8asvwlvxtl_medium

Also, there are a few terms you should try to learn and incorporate them in your routine. No single phrase is more important to your livelihood and length of stay on the tour than "MOVING DAY". It seems Rickie had heard the word, but did not fully understand it. On 'moving day', you forget Thursday and Friday and put yourself in a position to win or at least cash a nice check. You know, you jump from T69 to T16. You propel yourself from 31st to T6. You DO NOT shoot a 69, 1-under, to DROP from T1 to T5. Moving day is for moving up, Rickie, not moving back. You will be okay, because you appear to have some serious game.

Oh, Rickie, I just checked with iPhone. There is NOT an app for that...

Luckily for Fowler, he isn’t technically a rookie – he’s playing “winter ball in Venezuela” with all the south American major leaguers…which may explain the androgenous look with the hair and the ridiculous hat size covering the ears.

Add haircuts and hat sizes to the list of things to learn as a rookie assuming he’s a PGA Tour rookie next year.

Sorry, I made a rookie mistake by

calling RF a rookie. Is there a pre-rookie classification?

Steve Marino has a nice hairdo…and we all can visit Stephanie Wei’s site for the latest on Ryan Moore, the fellow who is a man about hats. They’re doing nicely.

We must be getting old or something when we worry about what hats and hairdos the younger players have. It’s not a far trip to “getoff my lawn!”

Fowler’s working on a nice do that looks like Stephanie’s. Long hair doesn’t bother me – but I’ll admit to not being a fan of androgeny, hats over the ears, and flat cap bills. :-)

It’s funny…when I was younger, long hair was THE thing. Now that I am older, and married not so much. Of course there is less to work with, but still wash-and-go has proven to be the thing.

As for the painter’s caps, well, those things change from year to year. And who am I to talk. I have one of those Russian hats with furry ear flaps that I will start wearing to the course when winter truly sets in.

you have GOT to post that picture – those Russian fur hats are great.

I like the painters caps – very comfortable – unfortunately, my local golf store doesn’t stock them. Didn’t Ryan Moore say he started wearing them because the regular baseball caps gave him headaches ?

How about if we get Miguel Angel Jimenez to mentor Fowler ? Ponytail and a big stogie on the course ? (lol)

Gee, the year is 1969

and my hair is a little long. Some old, old guy (about 45) tells me he doesn’t like my hair. He probably wouldn’t like my hat, if I was wearing one, or my bell-bottoms and my real leather thong sandals.

I wasn’t really too concerned what he thought. If he is alive today, he is about ninety. I hope he got happier in his older years.

What level of professionalism were you striving for in your bellbottoms and sandals ? I’m guessing it wasn’t anything like the PGA Tour.

The PGA Tour styles of the late 60’s were pretty wild. In fact, some say that golf started going through a hideous stage about then, but that’s something for Patricia Hannigan and others to decide.

lol – true

but that wasn’t the question
