Lucas Glover: Playing for Trophies and Free Money
The four major champions were in Bermuda for the past two days for the playing of the PGA of America Grand Slam of golf. Two rounds of golf for a purse of a million dollars - and a pink Bermudan jacket to the winner. The tournament is effectively an exhibition that few people really get to see and the results prove almost nothing about the four major winners.
YE Yang is so worn out that his eyes are twitching, and he's sleeping in locker rooms.
Angel Cabrera really only cares about the major championships.
Stewart Cink and Lucas Glover just got done demolishing the Internationals at the Presidents Cup - a slightly more meaningful event that they played in for free.
They're all really tired.
Last week at the USGA headquarters, Lucas Glover admitted that he knows some of his fellow PGA Tour pros play for paychecks and a livelihood. But, said that style doesn't work for him.
"I play for trophies," he said. "I just don't agree with playing for money."
Well, what about a trophy and $600,000 of free bonus money? That's what he got by winning the tournament. It's the best of both worlds for the US Open champion.

I’m pretty sure you can just play for trophies on the Amateur Circuit, right?
