Nationwide Tour to Sawgrass in 2010
Great news, Jacksonville natives! The PGA Tour's proving ground is coming to YOU next season. The Nationwide Tour will be playing TPC Sawgrass' other course, the Valley Course, in the Winn-Dixie Jacksonville Open next October.
This is good new for Jacksonville tourism because J'Ville's downtown is the sadest thing you've ever seen. At least fans have another golf tournament to scope out, in addition to the sparsely crowded beaches in town.
For the Nationwide Tour guys, they have to feel a little bummed that they're not get the Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass. But, the Valley Course is not nearly as gimmicky as the Stadium Course can seem.
I mean, at least they're not playing the Castle Course at St. Andrew's...

Pretty cool – it’ll give the Nationwide Tour guys a little more incentive to make their way to the PGA Tour and up the rankings to play the Stadium Course.
The downtown area of Jacksonville is a business district – not a tourist district. Ponte Vedra is southeast of the city.

They have a little waterfront area there that tries to be touristy, but just fail fail fails.
I’ve been down there for The Players before and liked PVB better.

So what DOES it take for you to classify a downtown area as a success ? The J’ville Riverfront does a lot of business as an entertainment area. You may think it’s a little hokey, but a failure ? Not likely. If you want to see it in full bloom, head down the week of the Georgia v Florida game next week. The Players is a week where the galleries are mostly filled with locals and out of towners who will stay at the beach.

Jacksonville is just a fail of a city. Strangely enough, it is also technically the largest in America in square footage. (I did a report on them in grad school finance.)

If you want touristy, go to the World Golf Hall of Fame and St. Aug.
And Court is right, Pontre Vedra Beach is not Jacksonville.
