Tiger Woods vs. 12 Year Old Boy: No Contest
The video has made its way around the Interwebs today, but I missed out on it. Armchair Golf Blog has a post on it, as well as Devil Ball Golf - each with different vids and a little different info. Here's what happened.
Tiger Woods was at a groundbreaking ceremony for his design project in North Carolina and hit a ceremonial first shot. It's something Jack does at his dogleg right-heavy courses too. Tiger sprays a few right, so asks for a volunteer to poke one straight. Twelve year old Mark Benevento Jr. steps up to the plate.
He crushes it down the middle. Tiger asks him to do it again. He does. There are about a hundred and fifty guys on the PGA Tour that couldn't replicate two straight down the middle with Tiger looking at 'em.
Mark, my friend, you're awesome. At the AmEx outing that I had last week, I had a chance to outdrive Lucas Glover on a perfectly driveable 330 yard par 4. He landed pin high. I pull hooked mine into the bunker under the glare of the US Open champion. (Sure, I won the subsequent chipping contest, but still.)
America, your new golf hero has arrived.
