Let's Have A Golf Course Tournament: The Best Course YOU'VE Ever Played
So, I've been thinking for the past couple of weeks about a way to put together a fun thing to do since pro golf is kind of winding down for the year now. With less events in this period leading into the Dubai World Championship, we have some time on our hands. I think it's time to do something fun.
I want to have a user-driven tournament to determine the best course that any of you have ever played. After having played Trump National on Thursday (which I'll write about early next week), I realized that it was the first time that I had played a course on one of those top 100 lists produced by the magazines.
In all honesty, I probably will not get to play tons of courses like Trump National. Some of TN's critics would say, "Good," but that's not the point. The point is that the best course ever is the best one that we have actually played. Augusta, Pebble, and that ilk are incredible courses that we will likely never sniff. So, let's crown a champion of courses that we have played.
Here's the deal. I'm going to take submissions from all of you for the best couple of courses that you've ever played. You can leave them here in the comments for this post or send me an email, Tweet, Facebook message, FedEx package with $20 processing fee, or carrier pigeon with your nominations. Then, I'll gather all of them together and we'll form a tournament bracket. The person who submits each course will make the case why it's the best ever, then we'll all vote.
In the end, we'll crown the best course that any of us have ever played.
Now, the quality of this all depends on the variety of courses that we put out there. So, take a few minutes, tell me a course, send some photos, give me a website. Let's have some fun with this!

Lemme tell ya a story about a
great golf courses. One score and seven years ago, a friend took a few of us to play Congressional Country Club in Potomac, MD. At the time, they were still playing the Kemper Open there. We put our shoes on (in the locker room) and went to the pro shop. The pro told us an outing was running late and would we rather play the Gold course instead. He told us most members preferred the gold course and that the Fazio’s had redesigned it a few years ago. I told my friend I would rather play one hole on the Blue course and get thrown off because of darkness than play the ‘other’ course. At Merion, a few members told me they haven’t played their East course in years, preferring the ‘other’ course. There is a reason why these are world class golf courses. I don’t always perceive the whole reason they are that much better, but it feels nice to step on the spot Hogan hit his one-iron in 1950. Or walk the 18th hole where Venturi earned his Oscar for best performance by an actor/golfer in the 1964 Open.
Like everyone, I am sure, there are courses I have played not on any TOP ANYTHING list, but are fabulous course. One, The Edgewood-Tahoe may have backdrops and backgrounds superior to Pebble. Maybe…
Great idea, Ryan. I use to have great ideas. I think…
