Presidents Cup: USA Wins While Adam Scott Loses

Well, talk about a mistake when it came to predicting the resurgence of a career for one of the world's most popular golfers.

The United States won yet another Presidents Cup title today when Tiger Woods sank a clutch putt to finish off his match again Y.E. Yang, surprising about 3 people in the golfing world in the process. While the International team had little chance at winning the Cup this year, many golf fans were hoping for a strong showing from the struggling Adam Scott.  (Well, maybe I should say *I* was hoping for Scott to finally show why he was the #3 ranked golfer in the world at one point in his career.) Alas, Scott managed to not only show that Greg Norman is a poor judge of talent, but Adam Scott should also seriously consider a career change if this level of play is to continue for the young golf hopeful.

Scott finished with a Presidents Cup record of 1-4 (0-2 in Four-Ball, 1-1 in Foursomes, and 0-1 in Singles) to show International captain Greg Norman exactly what this special captain's choice meant to him. For the only sake of comparison, the other Norman pick (Ryo Ishikawa) finished 3-2 while grabbing the attention of the golf world by his flashes of brilliance and poise in the wake of an American beat-down.

What does this mean for the future of the once-heralded Adam Scott? Only time will tell for sure, but this writer believes we have seen the last of what could have been the biggest challenger to Tiger's crown.

What does it mean for Scott ? It means he has a lot of work to do – a lot of decisions to make about what he wants to do with this career of his…does he want to be a top player ? does he want to get back into the endorsement circus ? Or is he happy with where he is in the middle of the pack with more time to date models and starlettes ? It’s hard to expect him to just spring to life during one week like this after such a bad season.

He has almost 3 months to reflect on this season and decide what he wants to do. Nobody doubts that he has the talent to be a top level pro – he just has to get back his discipline and drive – maybe spend a little less time in the casinos.

Something tells me...

…that he will make an attempt to hit the higher ranks again, but it will probably be all for naught. The guy simply doesn’t know how to win and continue winning with any consistency. How do you go from #3 in the world to #65 without freaking the hell out, firing your swing coach, or switching equipment LONG before you hit #65???

all modesty aside...

Aside from Tiger and Vijay – is there anybody out there who knows how to win ? Sometimes I think Padraig Harrington knows, and a few of the older guys who have been passed thanks to father time, but Paddy gets rolling, then changes his swing in the middle of a streak. (NEVER mess with a streak)

From the time I started playing golf and paying attention to the pros, these guys would always sound like they won because their games just happened to come together that week. It wasn’t because they were determined or were capable of hitting the shots they needed from hole to hole – it always sounded like they got lucky.

He’s complacent. It would take a really special player not to be. He’s made millions, “dates” models & actresses, travels the world to play golf, and is still in his 20s.

If I wake up tomorrow morning with $20 million in the bank, I’m not going to work. I’m going to do whatever I feel like doing; whether it’s playing golf, surfing, skiing, or naked wrestling with Miss Brazil.

I wish he would make the most of his talent, but I understand why guys like Adam Scott, Luke Donald, Camilo Villegas, Anthony Kim, Aaron Baddeley, Charles Howell III, Sergio Garcia, Justin Rose, Ian Poulter, Hunter Mahan, etc. have/will never be a threat to be the best player in the world. They get everything the ever wanted at a young age and can’t maintain the drive.

Hogan said, ""Every day you miss playing

or practicing is one day longer it takes to be good".

It’s up to Adam.

Me. I’d see a good financial counselor. Make sure I have enough to last me and then chase the models and actresses. You guys are lying when you say you wouldn’t. Liar, liar pants on fire, especially you MattSpence

Yes he did – but Hogan was a driven man. He was driven to be the best. He was driven to win. He was driven to provide for his family, and you had to win or place top 5 to do most of those things.

These guys can make millions without winning – then add more millions on top of that in endorsements. Some of these guys don’t have the drive to be winners. Sometimes the casinos and models and starlettes are a “better” distraction for them.
