The Votes Are In And the Next Euro Ryder Cup Captain is...
Well, we'll find that out a little bit later this week. The 15 man committee that will determine the next European Ryder Cup captain will convene before the Dubai Desert Classic to determine the 2010 captain, and perhaps the 2012 captain as well. The running rumor is that Colin Montgomerie will get the 2010 job and Jose Maria Olazabal may well be named the 2012 captain at the same time.
Momentum among the players seems to support this path. Lee Westwood was quoted this weekend as saying that Monty should get the job.
"Colin is known for the way he has played in Ryder Cup. He would stand on the first tee – and seeing he is there with his fantastic cup record . . . it would feel like being one up to start with,” Westwood said.
"To me, it makes sense to have Colin the first time and then Jose Maria in America. They would both be 47 years old when they did it – and that would make most sense to me. I think they’ll make good captains, because they have the experience and knowledge of Ryder Cup."
But, it's not necessarily set in stone yet. Who do you think gets the job?
