Reviews of Products I Used in Vegas

I haven't been able to golf for the past several months here in the Washington, D.C., area but I had been given a couple of products to review during the fall.  I thought that my trip to Vegas was a perfect opportunity to try out a couple of products on different ends of the golf spectrum.

The first is called Par Bar.  It's from Sun Valley Bar company and it is designed for golfers to have an energy bar that will help players have enough energy to tackle the course.  The bars are made with all natural ingredients, and without fillers and supplements.  They're wheat and dairy-free, as well as kosher.  They come in four flavors - Cranberry Almond, Goji Lemon, Chocolate Chocolate Chip, and Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip.

Before each round, I had a Par Bar to see if I would have enough energy to kickstart my round.  Of the four flavors, I liked Cranberry Almond most with Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip in second.  The bars were tasty and provided me with the energy I needed to get through my early morning rounds (I am not a morning person) and through much of my busy afternoons and evenings on the Vegas Strip.

The bars retail for $2 each and are definitely a viable alternative to hot dogs or other snack items that golfers tend to use to try to get through a round.

Next, after the jump, is a different kind of golf tee.

Star-divide

The other golf product is a new kind of golf tee that I've not seen before in my experience.  It's called the Tomahawx Golf Tee.  The tee is a hard plastic tee that is guaranteed to be unbreakable.  The tees came to me in a pack of four, with two tees of each height (2.75" and 2.25").

So, what's different about them?

Well, the patent pending idea behind the tees is that the tees are resistence-free.  They achieve this lack of resistence by having a tee point that goes into the ground that resembles a tomahawk tee.

By having a point shaped this way, the idea is that the tee can move through your impact with the golf ball to prevent resistence and increase distance.  I didn't hit enough of a sample of tee shots to know that one way or another, but I did feel that I got through the ball with less resistence off of the tee.

The tomahawk shape definitely popped the tee out of the ground in a manner that seemed like the shots would go miles.  I almost felt like those guys that hit the ball, how do you say? - really well.  The tees were made of solid construction and definitely propped my ball up at the appropriate level for my 460cc driver.

The four pack goes for about five bucks.

that Ryan...

…he’s just a marketing MACHINE ! :-)

The Par Bar sounds pretty good – have to look for them.

I have tried the tee and found that it worked fine down in the sandy ground in Florida, but not so much in the hard clay of Georgia. It’s a sound theory, but it was kind of pricey, especially after I broke two of them in hard ground.

Good point

The harder the ground, the less likely you’ll be able to use them successfully. Vegas ground wasn’t bad, but if I tried here right now, they’d snap in two.

yup

my favorite of the “new” tees is the Launcher Tee. It’s a simple, traditional peg design made of a composite material (ok – plastic) with a small circumference head. They make them in three sizes so you can hit your driver, fairway woods, and irons from an appropriate height. And they make a second series with a ring around them to help you set the tee at a particular height.

Best of all – they are almost impossible to break. The only reason I had to get a second one last year was because I gave one to a friend to try and forgot to get it back.

Hmm

Sounds like a plan. We could do a tee review!

I did one a couple of years ago...

…Launcher, Rocket, Sabertooth, Epoch, and a couple of others. Honestly, I couldn’t tell any difference – except that I broke more of the super thin wood tees than anything, and standing behind someone using an Epoch tee is a very bad idea. (For some reason, they tend to shoot straight back)
