Golf Channel Going "A Current Affair?"
I'm a little late to the party on this issue, but really, nothing else in golf is inspiring me today to post. During an interview with Tadd Fujikawa's grandfather, Lerner raised the question of Tadd's father's drug arrest. It's a hard question that a decent number of people in the audience were probably wondering themselves.
I'm glad he did it. There is a fine line to walk when talking to PGA Tour players. They're generally very private people and are asked to be that way by the Tour. It's tough to get answers out of them beyond the pale of how their game is and the clubs they are playing. That's why so many golf writers have mancrushes on Geoff Ogilvy - he says what he thinks contrary to what most players do.
With family members, though, they're not subject to having that same kind of guard on a weekly basis. They're going to tend to answer questions posed of them so long as they're not offensive.
Lerner didn't cross lines. He didn't bait anyone into a goofy answer to make someone look bad. He asked a tough question and that's something we should see more often.
