I've finally lost a little respect for Tiger

I know this will irk D, and it's not written to intentionally bother her or anyone else - but I just heard on the news that Tiger Woods is going to speak Sunday during the Chairman Mao-Bama Concert at the Lincoln Memorial. (I guess Obama didn't get the word that Lincoln was a Republican)

It's not news that Obama scares the crap out of me because off his political leanings and connections, and I guess I shouldn't be too surprised to see Tiger Woods agreeing to speak on Sunday - he is, after all, the most successful Cablanasian to play on the PGA Tour.  He is not a pioneer - that honor goes to men a generation or two before Tiger stepped onto a tee box - but he is one of the greatest to ever play.

Up until now - about the only problem I have had with Tiger was his tendency to swear after a bad shot - with a lot of kids in the galleries.  This just bugs me.

Oh well - the racial component of this election is indeed historic - so I guess I will just bite my lip and wait for Tiger to get back to work on Tour.

Hmm

This is not written to “intentionally bother anyone else?” Could have fooled me. Using phrases like “Chairman Mao-Bama” and sentences like “It’s not news that Obama scares the crap out of me because off [sic] his political leanings and connections…” seemingly only will stir up antagonistic feelings in people. Look, your party has gone from 55 seats in the Senate following the 2004 elections to just 41 today. Why not give the other guys a chance? :) And language and sentiments like this, before Obama is even inaugurated, seem a little overwrought to me.

if I wanted to really tick people off...

…trust me, I could have said a lot more – but Tiger’s statement on his own web site made it clear to me that the celebration is more about the color of Obama’s skin than the depth of his character…sort of the opposite of Martin Luther King’s dream, wouldn’t you say ?

I understand how you feel, CG

You want your house Negros to perform for you, but don’t want them to express opinions.

Truth has a well-known liberal bias.

now I'm confused...again...

…This administration has been fairly clear that they do not like or respect our Military, and they have no problem putting our amed services under the control of the UN…the same UN that had Saddam Hussein sign surrender papers allowing the UN complete access to anything and everything Iraqi – then gave Saddam 12 years to move and hide their weapons and nuclear materials. (this was publicly undisputed on both sides of the aisle before GWB was elected – the all of a sudden Bush was an idiot as the left side of the aisle and the media conveniently forgot what they had been saying for 8 years of Clinton)

Now – we have Tiger Woods – accepting an invitation to speak in front of the Lincoln Memorial. Why ? Because of the color of Obama’s skin, and Tiger has this to say…

Woods speaks at inaugural event
GOLFWEEK STAFF

Tiger Woods spoke Sunday at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington during "We Are One," an inauguration celebration for President-elect Barack Obama (pictured, left). Below is the text of his speech, entitled "You’ll Never Walk Alone," as posted on his Web site:

"I grew up in a military family – and my role models in life were my Mom and Dad, Lt. Colonel Earl Woods.

My dad was a Special Forces operator and many nights friends would visit our home. They represented every branch of the service, and every rank. In my Dad, and in those guests, I saw first hand the dedication and commitment of those who serve. They come from every walk of life. From every part of our country. Time and again, across generations, they have defended our safety in the dark of night and far from home.

Each day – and particularly on this historic day – we honor the men and women in uniform who serve our country and protect our freedom. They travel to the dangerous corners of the world, and we must remember that for every person who is in uniform, there are families who wait for them to come home safely.

I am honored that the military is such an important part, not just of my personal life, but of my professional one as well. The golf tournament we do each year here in Washington is a testament to those unsung heroes. I am the son of a man who dedicated his life to his country, family and the military, and I am a better person for it.

In the summer of 1864, Abraham Lincoln, the man at whose memorial we stand, spoke to the 164th Ohio Regiment and said:

‘I am greatly obliged to you, and to all who have come forward at the call of their country.’

Just as they have stood tall for our country – we must always stand by and support the men and women in uniform and their families.

Thank you, and it is now my pleasure to introduce the US Naval Glee Club."

How in the world was Tiger allowed to make such glowing remarks about the armed forces ? Did he just not tell the organizers what he was going to say ? I also noted that there wasn’t a single mention of Obama. Strange to anybody else ? Apparently I was wrong about Tiger’s position. I hope he accepted the invitation in his father’s honor – and no one elses.

You fooled me

When I saw the title of your post Court, I thought, “Nice … someone else noticed Tiger’s shabby public speaking abilities too.” But no, you lost respect for Tiger because he respects Obama enough to speak … That is laughable, and most know that Blazer likes to laugh, so thanks Court!
