And the winner is...

Do you think the CEO and other big wigs at Fed Ex are choking a little bit looking at $35 million in cash about to walk out the door - $10 million of it to a player already decided ?  All that hype and advertising for the biggest prize in golf has once again flopped.  What makes it worse is that this year, the winner is known three weeks before the end of The Tour Championship.

All Vijay has to do is show up and play to collect his 2000 points and he has that $9 million from Fed Ex in his pocket.  Even if Villegas wins he will be 101 points behind Singh.  Wooo-hooo.  Excitement galore right around the corner.

So, now the Fed Ex Cup has takend the frosting off the Tour Championship cake.  The tournament itself is moot to the bigger cash prize.  The tournament itself has a purse of $7 million, and there are the other 25 million Fed Ex dollars to play for - but that's for second place and back.

Who knows if Mickelson will even bother to show up ?  He gets a free paycheck, and has already skipped Atlanta when his picture was on the tickets with the lame excuse of getting his kids ready for Halloween.  He didn't seem to have that problem last year when a couple of tournaments in Asia were lining his pockets with guaranteed cash. (everybody who's shocked at that - raise your hand...anybody ?  ANYBODY ??)

Only one major winner will be on hand at the Tour Championship - Masters winner Trevor Immelman.  No Tiger, of course, and Paddraig Harrington dropped from 4th to 50th after missing 2 cuts.

SO - that leaves us with Anthony Kim, Sergio Garcia, and Camillo Villegas.  Why ?  Because Atlanta has some spectacularly beautiful women, and they will turn out to follow those three.

The 30...potentially 29...guys at the top of the Fed Ex points list will come to Atlanta  and play hard because they are professionals and there is a $32 million on the table.  And there is the Tour Championship title to play for, plus a ticket to Hawaii in January for the Mercedes Benz if the winner hasn't already won this year.  But the big prize is off the table 2 1/2 weeks before the first ball is teed up.

WWWEEEEEEEeeeeeeeeeee !!

Kenny Perry and MB Championship

According to AP, he said the above in reference to the course and tournament. This in 2006

“I think they’ve blown it,” Kenny Perry huffed after a 77 in the third round. “It’s a little unfair. Everyone has to play it, but I don’t think it’s golf, in my opinion. Who wants to shoot 75 or 76 when that’s the average score? I tell you what, it’s shot my confidence.”

and.

Perry was so flustered that he said he would consider not returning next year if he was eligible. Mark Calcavecchia thought that was a little severe. After all, they’re in Hawaii being treated like royalty. Last place paid $70,000. Every player got a free room at the Ritz-Carlton.

As much as some may be shocked after I defended Perry skipping two majors this year, I did give him my award.

that's the old Kenny Perry...

…tell me a guy on Tour who doesn’t beef when he puts up a big number. They blame everyone but themselves in order to KEEP from losing their confidence.

David Duval had the only legitimate reason that I can recall for not returning – even when he proved that he could win in Hawaii. He said that his game had to be retooled to play in those winds (knock down shots, low runners, low trajectory drives, etc), then it took him some time to get his regular game back after two weeks on the islands. He didn’t blame the tournament, he was just saying that HIS game got messed up.

Atlanta

Anthony Kim, Camilo Villegas, Sergio Garcia…sound like three good reasons to go to Atlanta. Seriously, the tour needs better PR.

So are you saying?

That if I do a fashion show and sometimes post pictures of me shirtless, that you’ll visit and tell your friends?

I mean, I’m young and pretty ok looking…
