Ochoa: "A Little Drastic"
LoCho weighs in with a quick hit comment at a charity event in Guadalajara.
Lorena Ochoa of Mexico says a new LPGA policy requiring players to be effective in English starting in 2009 is a “little drastic.”
Ochoa, the No. 1 player in women’s golf, says golfers are better judged by their performance.
She was asked at a charity event in her hometown of Guadalajara on Tuesday if she thought the new policy discriminated against international players.
“That is a a very strong word. I wouldn’t want to use it,” said Ochoa, who speaks English. “But I do think it is a little drastic.”
Love that they had to throw in that she does speak English in the AP copy. Seems pretty reasonable to me.

objection !
sustained. if that question had been asked in court, it would have received immediate objections as leading and argumentative. Whatever AP mo-ron decided to insert his/her opinion into the question should be reprimanded, but won’t because that’s the way things are done these days. What a shame.
I want to know if there were any more questions and comments from Ochoa during the interview, of if it was ended when the AP person got the kind of answer they were looking for. “ooo – drastic is good – I can get a lot of mileage with that answer – thanks.”

You know better than that.
There’s no way the AP took my copious notes than this. Still, this doesn’t seem to be taken out of context, really. I think you could’ve gotten the exact same answer had a question been, “What’s your opinion of the new policy, Lorena?”

very possibly
but the judge threw out the question – it is no longer in the record. :-)
