The 19th Hole Golf Show - 9/15/08

On this week's show, we'll talk about whether or not the Euros are as much of a lock as everyone (namely Ron Sirak) thinks they are.  Courtney Kelso - VP of marketing for American Express - joins me to talk Ryder Cup sponsorship and the health of golf sponsorships.  Finally, we'll talk about Angela Stanford's 2nd career LPGA Tour win on the RTJ Golf Trail in Alabama.

wrong link ?

This link brings up a page with last week’s show date – and I’m pretty sure that this is last week’s show with Shackleford.

My bad

My uploads last night went to the wrong directory. I’ll correct that tonight.

Actually, Camilo Villegas is mispronounced by almost every announcer. The “ll” (double L) in Spanish is pronounced like this – l+yeh. So, it’s cah-me-yo v-yeh-gas. It bothers me everytime I hear it on TV because everyone says it wrong.

uh huh - pronounce FAAAAVVVVVruh (lol)

I have had this argument with our show host – if it was just a matter of taking a Spanish class and using the pronunciation guide, then you would be right.

BUT – Brian ASKED Villegas how he says his name – Cuh-ME-lo ViJAY-gus

At that point – you say it how he says it’s supposed to be pronounced – and the announcers, since then, for the most part, say it right.

Hmm, interesting

I wonder if Columbians have different dialects of Spanish. Maybe they do the double L as a jay across the board. Glad to hear someone asked him about it. Consider me converted – I just thought the announcers were idiots. BTW, Mike Ritz was not very good in the booth on the LPGA telecast this weekend.

beats me

I know that Guillermo Vilas had the same kind of thing – (gee-jermo vee-lahs) – but he’s from Argentina

lol – no Ritz didn’t do such a hot job – what amazes me is that there are guys like Brian Katrek out here who are known by xxx Golf Channel people, but don’t get a shot at any of the 5 tours covered by xxx Golf Channel. (after working with him for several years, I have no doubt that he could take over for Kelly Tilghman without breaking a sweat – but there are others doing smaller tours with more seniority)

In a perfect world

I would do my show for TGC or a larger outlet with a little bit more time to prepare. I’ve never had a larger audience than I do now for everything that I do, so maybe that’s not too far off! Haha.

hmmm

I’m thinking you could be in line for a papparazzo or two ! :-) pretty cool having an expanding audience.
