Can Paddy Get Player of the Year?

There is an argument to be made that Padraig Harrington is Player of the Year on the PGA Tour.  Two majors in a row are tough to deny.  He would be a lock were it not for Tiger's performance pre-2nd surgery.  But, Harrington has a case that is incomplete.  He still has the PGA Tour Playoffs for the FedEx Cup to win the award.  If he wins the FedEx Cup, could he then be a lock for Player of the Year?

In a story in the NY Post, Paddy is quoted as saying:

"I sat by the pool most of the week and come Sunday, I was thinking I might sit there another week. On that [basis], the FedEx Cup is a success. I wouldn't be here [otherwise]," said Harrington, who also won the British Open this summer. "The FedEx Cup is what is attracting me out again this week and that was the idea of it, to get players out here to compete at this time of year.

"After winning two majors, you think, 'Well, I could do with a rest,' but there's other things to play for."

"It's a great chance of winning the title of Player of the Year and leading the Order of Merit. I've done it in Europe and it'd be very nice to do it in the States. That's the No. 1 motivation. This is an opportunity for all of us to do it now," Harrington said.

Paddy believes.  Do you?

POY is a joke

for 11 of the last 12 years, there has been an undisputed player of the year. Only Vijay’s big year bumped Tiger off the throne – and that only lasted until Tiger got his 2nd “new swing” rolling.

They need to just take Woods off the list of eligible players – call it the “Here’s the guy who almost made Tiger Woods sweat a little” award – and let him pick the winner.

The ONLY reason not to give it to Tiger this year is that there isn’t a sport on the planet that gives its MVP award to someone who played less than halfa season.

Harrington has 2 majors and a good Euro season (nothing to do with the PGA, I know) – and a pretty good PGA season.

Perry has his 3 wins and 2 runner ups in playoffs. Hard to top that, except he only played in one major. (Opens by choice, Masters because he wasn’t invited)

Take Tiger off the list and give it to Harrington.
