Wie signs of life ?

How about this - and I have to admit that I'm surprised - Michelle Wie fired a two under 70 today, which still puts her at +1 for the tournament, but it's looking like she will make the cut.

Veeeeerrry interesting.  She is still 9 shots below the leaders and has a boatload of players to pass to get into the top 2/3/4, depending on who's numbers you believe will make her enough money to get her LPGA card for '09.

Most of the leaders are still on the course, so the top spot could be more than 9 away, and 4th is 6 away.

SO - here's the question - knowing that she doesn't have a history of going low - can she put up at least 2 65's to make up the ground on Saturday and Sunday ?

If she can't break par, or only posts 1 or 2 under, will she give up on Sunday ? (this is a pretty good sized purse - a decent finish won't get her a card - but there is that pesky "back to school" shopping to do and those #2 pencils aren't cheap anymore) :-)

you missed

66-69 on the poll. If yesterday is a predictor of today, the afternoon wave won’t score as well as they did when they played yesterday morning.

Had you offered the choice, “Upper 60s each day, no card this year but she has a respectable top 20 finish,” I would have chosen it.

picky picky picky :-)

you just can’t satisfy some women !!! :-D

Probably could’ve put in the upper 60’s scores – but the whole idea is to finish top 2/3/4 – anything outside of that doesn’t get her enough cashola to get her card. Although – your scores WOULD get her a seat at Outback instead of Applebee’s. :-)

break time

I’m on vacation next week so you’ll get a break from being picked on, by me anyway. Enjoy your week.

SWEET !

Caribbean Cruise ? Climbing the Matterhorn ? Awarding gold medals in Beijing ? Playing Pebble Beach and St Andrews in the same week ? Picking coffee beans in “Watamala” ? :-)

Hope it’s a great vacation.

wait a sec

So with 2 straight sub-70 rounds, are you closer to agreeing with me about that corner, CG?

by The Constructivist on Aug 16, 2008 7:54 PM EDT   0 recs

maybe a little

but it’s way too soon to tell – at least she didn’t quit on Friday when she had all but played herself out of an ’09 card.

a pretty good round today – but she’s 11 out of first and 6 out of a 4th place finish, which is borderline, but probably short of getting a card. (the LPGA office says she needs 2nd)

not too bad

Wiesy finished the weekend pretty well and got a T12. That’s not bad. Not enough, but not bad. Seems like she may be finding her form but certainly does not have enough opportunities (0) to do anything about it.

yep

I would definitely agree if there was any sort of sign that she was going to find some way to play a regular schedule. This thing of playing a tournament here and there, then trying to play three tournaments in 5 weeks with 2 back to back (with 2 circus rounds in the middle) just adds to the confusion. She flushed Leadbetter’s idea of putting her 6 exemptions in a small time frame, so she put all kinds of pressure on herself at the end of the year.

She didn’t even try to play tournaments where the field was a little weak to give her a better shot at high finishes. (hint hint – Tiger played The Greater Milwaukee Open, The Quad City Classic, BC Open, and the LaCantera Texas Open when he got started in 1996)

Is she going back to school this fall for 2 more quarters ? Is she going to try to play some Futures Tour events to get ready for Q-school ? Is she even GOING to Q-school since she has to go through all three phases ? (heaven forbid)

She makes my brain hurt thinking about all the things she’s screwed up over the past few years – but I KNOW there is a world of talent and potential in that body – there has to be some way to get through that thick, yet vacuous, skull of hers and get her on a good path.

oh...

…do I get credit for 70-70 since she put up 69-71 on the weekend ? At least she doesn’t have to eat at Applebee’s ! :-)
