Reconcile These Statements
First, check out this headline from PGATour.com's TJ Auclair:
Azinger happy with how Ryder Cup team is forming
and this quote from an Azinger presser:
"We've got eight established players... I'm really excited about who we have on the team," he said.
Then, consider these, from the same press conference:
"This time I think it's clear that we are the underdogs going into these matches," Azinger said.
"I'm really glad I don't have to pick four players this morning," he said.
The whole transcript of the press conference can be found on ASAP Sports.
Interestingly enough, TJ Auclair actually misquoted Paul Azinger from the press conference. Relating to the established players quote, here is what Azinger ACTUALLY said:
Well, we've got eight players established, and I'm really happy that I don't have to pick four players this morning, I can tell you that. It would have been very difficult to know what to do.
That is completely different than what Auclair reported. The end of the quote comes after he describes each of the eight players that have already qualified.
I find this to be an inexcusable mistake because the press (and you, too) have access to these transcripts. Reporters have to take zero notes and just wait for the transcripts.
My question, then, is this: why mangle what Azinger really said?

I think they can all be reconciled with the time tested Chicago Cubs mantra – “wait ‘til next year !”
Great supportive fans who always fill the stands – but they don’t have winning seasons very often.
A little self-deprication never hurts to lower expectations either. Former UGA football coach Vince Dooley was a master at it. Listening to him, you’d think his national championship team with Herschel Walker was an underdog to the school for the blind. :-)
"this ball will fit in that fairway"
transcript error
maybe I was more right than even I thought – the transcriptionist probably lapsed in and out of consciousness listening to the confernce. :-D
