Buy Phil Mickelson's House
Hey, have I got a deal for you: How'd you like to buy Phil Mickelson's house?
Phil's house - one of them, anyway - is up for sale. The home and five acres are fancy enough to be named. And the name of the estate is "El Mirlo."
El Mirlo is located in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif., the San Diego suburb that is very close to Torrey Pines Golf Course. The Mickelsons lived at El Mirlo from 2000 through 2007, when they moved into a larger home.
The home is listed by Prudential California Realty. A check of Prudential California's Web site failed to turn up El Mirlo, perhaps because the listing is too new, more likely because the home won't be listed online out of respect for the Mickelsons' privacy. (Don't you just hate other people's privacy concerns?) But looking through the listings from the same neighborhood reveals El Mirlo, built in 2000 or ealier, to be one of the older homes listed. Perhaps a bunch of nouveau-nouveau riche moved in, built newer and bigger homes, and drove the Mickelsons into an even more exclusive enclave.
The San Diego Union Tribune described the house thusly:
An aerial photo of the estate shows El Mirlo looking very much like a European villa, Americanized with a swimming pool and huge putting green. It comes with a 1,200-square-foot detached guest villa and a detached studio.
Alas, the newspaper didn't offer that photo. But who needs a photo? If you have $10 million-$12 million, you can buy the house and take all the pictures you want.
Update: Scratch those privacy concerns. Realtor.com has the listing here. Estimate mortgage payment is $59,000 per month. The home is 4-bedroom, 3-bath. There's a living room, dining room, family room and den. Hardwood floors. Two fireplaces. A 30x20 kitchen. A four-car garage. Swimming pool and hot tub. Exercise room, wine cellar, "media/music" room.
The only photo offered is this one:
Perhaps the Johs can buy it, leveraging Tiffany's future earnings. Then invite us all over for a pool party, putting contest and Korean barbecue. Sounds like a plan!

plenty of parking
did you notice the line in the parking section that sad that there is room for an RV ? don’t you know the neighbors would be thrilled to see a big ol’ Winnebago on the side. :-)

I doubt the neighbors would see a Winnebago.

take up a collection !
Ok – I’ve got $20 here – I think this should be the Waggle Room Estate. The house is very close to Torrey Pines, so we wouldn’t have to pay the $245 non-resident greens fees !
