Tree huggers have taken over all the golf writing positions
Where are these people coming from ?? These are supposed to be professional journalists who are paid to get a story CORRECT.
This Tim Dahlberg guy keeps flipping in and out of the facts so much that the truth gets all muddled up.
"I felt sorry for Wie the other day when the LPGA mishandled her failure to sign a scorecard and left her in tears after her best play in two years. It hardly seemed fair after everything she has been through the last couple of years."
The LPGA MISHANDLED HER FAILURE ????? Good lord - back away from the estrogen tablets and learn a little about your subject. This is not rocket science - it's not an explanation of the theory of relativity - it's a simple "check the numbers and sign your name BEFORE YOU LEAVE THE AREA" instruction.
This just gets more and more frustrating. I can see people who know Michelle Wie's name and think that everything she does is right - but know nothing about golf getting the story wrong - but this guy is supposed to know what he's talking about and he's supposed to tell the truth in his writing. But he doesn't.

huh? did we read the same article?
CG, I think you’re spring-loaded to find fault with anyone who writes anything about Wie. If you weren’t, you would have understood Dahlberg was referring to the twenty-four hours it took the LPGA to notify Wie she was DQ’d, not that they failed to give her special treatment, as you assert.
Every article I’ve read since Saturday says: “Wie has lots of talent,” “Wie has been mismanaged,” “Wie is making a mistake playing in a men’s tournament.” No one has suggested the rules should be changed/bent/whatever to accommodate her.

better read again
Dahlberg DID suggest that Wie should be given a pass on the scorecard non-signing – he blamed the LPGA for her screw up.
The LPGA has nothing to do with managing Michelle Wie – as Dahlberg asserts. According to Wie – she does what she wants anyway – SHE calls the shots and no on else.
If you suggest that the LPGA should have made an exception, or that the LPGA “mismanaged” the situation – you are flat out suggesting that the rules be bent to accomodate her.
There was no “24 hour period” before she was DQ’d. One more time – she finished late on Friday – Saturday’s rounds were started early to avoid weather – it was more like 12 hours – some of which was spent sleeping. Then you have to investigate to make sure you get the story straight – by mid morning, the story was cleared up, but she was on the course and officials didn’t want to embarrass her by pulling her off the course. What you watched on TV was tape delay.

you really get worked up over this stuff, don't you?
Here is the offending paragraph, right?
“I felt sorry for Wie the other day when the LPGA mishandled her failure to sign a scorecard and left her in tears after her best play in two years. It hardly seemed fair after everything she has been through the last couple of years.”
I see nothing in the paragraph that blames the tour for her not signing. I felt sorry for her too. But I also felt sorry for me, that I wouldn’t get to see her play in the final group Sunday, that I wouldn’t see if she had the fortitude and the game to win.
Dahlberg never says anything about bending the rules to accommodate Wie. About the only thing I’d fault him for is failing to define “mishandled.” Does he mean waiting longer than he thought reasonable to notify her; or does he mean not having an LPGA official in the scoring tent to monitor situations as they occur.
In any case, you fail to define your reasons for calling a sportswriter an environmentalist.

sigh
”...the LPGA mishandled HER FAILURE to sign a scorecard…” Nuff said. The LPGA did not mishandle HER failure to sign HER card. SHE screwed up – not the LPGA. A mistake was made by a volunteer who went outside the area where players are allowed to sign cards and let her sign the card – that is not the LPGA’s fault.
my bad – shouldn’t have invoked a politically charged word like “tree hugger” into the situation knowing I’d get you mad. wasn’t on purpose – it was intended to be a joke :-)

author's intent
You and I are both reading different meanings into what he wrote. BAD WRITER for not clarifying his intent.
I have absolutely no problem with you inserting “politically charged” words. My comment about your use of the term “tree hugger” was intended as a joke about writers failing to define abstract statements.
