Wie DQ'd from State Farm Classic
So much for the comeback:
Wie failed to sign her scorecard after Friday’s second round. She showed up Saturday and shot 5-under 67 to finish alone in second at 17 under, one stroke back of Yani Tseng. That’s when Wie learned of the LPGA’s ruling.
The 18-year-old Wie, who appeared to have been crying, told reporters she made a mistake.
“I don’t know how it happened,” she said.
This makes me very sad.

Michelle Wie = Ty Tryon?
I can’t help but feel as though a sixteen-year-old (or 17, or 18) is not yet emotionally mature enough to handle a professional golf career. As well as athletes this young seem to perform in some other individual* sports (tennis, gymnastics, etc.), golf just requires…more. I don’t mean to diminish those sports, mind you; it’s just that golf’s rules are so intricate, and the punishment for transgressions so punitive, that one must be mentally capable of handling many things at once. (John Daly would seem to be the exception that proves the rule.)
*Limited to individual sports for the obvious reason that in these competitions your coach or teammates can’t bail you out when you screw up – which Ms. Wie has done quite frequently, I’m afraid.

And yet ...
So many other 17, 18, 19 year olds seem to be doing just fine in women’s professional golf. Have Pressel, Tseng, Creamer, Hurst, Park (all of ‘em), various and sundry teen Koreans, encountered problems as often as Wie? I’m a fan of Michelle’s, but she needs to step up and take responsibility for being better prepared to play – on all levels, not just in terms of her golf swing.

hard to argue with that
not sure I’d put Ty Trion on the same level as Michelle Wie, though.
Wie became a media darling and it went to her head – she started believing the garbage the media was barfing out about her. the things that have happened to her have been her own fault – partly due to age and inexperience, and partly because of her ego and apparent lack of common sense.
Trion had to go out and earn something before the media took notice of him. He went through Q-school on a bet with his dad to get a car. When he started playing, he came down with mono and hasn’t been able to get his game back together. We never really got to find out about his intelligence and maturity.
