LPGA State Farm Classic Auction

While the LPGA State Farm Classic tees off Thursday, there's already a competition (of sorts) ongoing: The LPGA State Farm Classic Auction.

Lots of good stuff up for bid - Solheim Cup tickets, plus plenty of autographed items (caps, shirts, golf bags, balls) - and proceeds benefit various children's charities as well as the Golf Fore Africa program started by Betsy King.

Of course, you'll have to outbid The Constructivist for the Ai Miyazato autographed visor, and you'll have to outbid courtgolf for the Michelle Wie autographed shirt and cap. But you already knew that.

dude...

...why pay for an autographed visor when she already signed my (wait for it)...Wegmans program? Now that has real lasting value, if we don’t accidentally recycle it first. Come to think of it, where is that darn thing?

Did I ever mention we ate in a restaurant out in the country in Kyushu that had her autograph on the wall? (The wife spotted it, of course…. I saw no way to steal it.)

now I have this mental picture of TC jumping up and down screaming “AI AI AI AI AI PLLEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAASSSEEE SIGN MY PROGRAAAAAAM !!!” then almost fainting from the excitement. I tell ya – these groupies can get out of hand. :-D

That’s the voice inside my head to a T! What comes out, though , is more like a stuttered “onegai shimasu” and a maybe-forgotten-to-say “arigato gozaimasu.” I let my wife handle actually vocalizing that teenybopper stuff (cf. update 5)!

Getting an LPGA player's autograph

Isn’t hard to do. Any player I’ve asked for one at the ADT, happily do so. Grace Park, Se Ri Pak, Juli Inkster, Lori Kane. I nearly walked into Lori as the Pro-Am was finishing and she took a shortcut back to the clubhouse. This was way back in 2003 or 04.
