Decided to check the bottom end of the driving distance charts this morning. For no particular reason. But I found the results interesting, perhaps you will, too.

definitely interesting

The PGA Tour guys at the bottom of the list after today are still in that order, but are 199-203 – a couple of new guys were in the field this week and bumped the number up. Except for Kanada, they are all on the last part of their PGA Tour career, and Pavin is the one to have a decent result lately. What is most interesting are the two guys just above those five. Zach Johnson won twice last year and averaged 280 – he’s down to 269.9 this year. Paul Goydos has a win this year, is just 2 yards shorter, but sits down towards the bottom of the distance stats.

The good news could be that if Pavin, Mize, Funk, and Brooks hold the length they have – they’ll jump all the way into the 70’s on the Champions Tour…just don’t mention that there are only 81 guys with distance stats on the Champions Tour. :-)
