U.S. Women's Open Sectionals: Wie In

(ed - All the sectionals are now accounted for.)

Michelle Wie earned a spot in the field for the U.S. Women's Open by finishing second in the Rockville, Md., sectional qualifier on Monday. In the 36-hole qualifier, Wie shot 70-67 and finished behind only Kelli Kuehne. Michelle Redman was third.

There are seven sectionals taking place around the country today, and I'll be trying to track down as many scores as possible tonight. Alas, while the USGA and its state and regional associations do a great job of quickly posting scores from U.S. Open qualifiers, they do a lousy job of quickly posting scores from U.S. Women's Open qualifiers. So we'll have to wait and see what we get this evening, or whether I can find scores elsewhere.

I'll update this post as best I can.

Update: 13-year-old Alexis Thompson is in, finishing third at the Hobe Sound, Fla., sectional. Amy Yang also in from this sectional.

Update II: Praise to Golfweek for getting some scores posted. Note that the players listed at each qualifying location represent the full list of qualifiers from that location.

Victoria Tanco

Thank you very much for the information. I’ve just recieved a call that Victoria Tanco had qualified for the Open in Florida and I was checking it. Victoria is an Argentinean young girl. She is 14 years old now and we are very proud of her down here in Argentina. I’m a journalist and have been following her since she was 10. Check this out: http://www.clarin.com/diario/2004/11/18/conexiones/t-871262.htm Thanks again.

my list is incomplete...

...but isn’t Michelle Wie earning something one of the signs of the apocolypse ?? ;-) JUUUUST kidding :-D Good for her.

Interesting that she picked the sectional in Maryland. While they had the most spots available, they also had the most accomplished list of professionals moving over from the LPGA. She didn’t go home to Hawaii to beat on the locals, and she didn’t go somewhere with a big stack of amateurs and mini-tour players. Again – good for her.

"this ball will fit in that fairway"
